1 Exam Structure Exam (1 Hr 30 Minutes)
Q1a/b- Methods of collecting information (8marks) 2a/b- Approaches to develop performance(8marks) 3a/b Recording, Monitoring and Evaluating (8marks) Q4a/b Scenario Question (16 marks) Total /40 marks

2 Answering Question 1 Key Information
Methods of collecting information

3 Methods of Collecting Information
Why is it important to collect information on the impact of Mental, Emotional, Social and Physical Factors? It helps to identify strengths and weaknesses in your performance. Once you have identified your weakness you can plan out how you will improve this. It allows you to select the right approaches to improve your weakness. It allows you to see the progress you are making. You can compare data before, during and after training. It helps you to select short and long term goals. Factor Physical Mental Emotional Social Methods Stoke Repertoire Observation Schedule (SROS) The Cooper Test Mental Toughness Questionnaire  Video Analysis Sport Emotion Questionnaire Discipline Record  You won’t be asked about Social factors in the exam

1. Establish what command word you are being asked to use e.g ‘describe, explain or evaluate’. 2. Establish what factor and test you are asked to use 3.When ‘describing’- write down every piece of detail you can remember about the test……….. The activity used? What did data sheet look like? Was the sheet in questionnaire/observation format? Points total of game/length of game/ equipment needed? 4. You might find it useful draw a diagram of the test. 5. Be clear in part in (b) are you being asked to evaluate one or both tests. 6.Do you need to evaluate strengths and weaknesses or just strengths.

5 Answering Question 2 Key Information
Approaches to Develop Performance

6 Approaches to Performance Development
Factor Physical Mental Emotional Social Approach Shadow Practice Repetition Drill Pressure Drill Conditioned Games Interval Training Continuous Training Mental Imagery Deep Breathing (Relaxation Technique) Deep Breathing Positive Self Talk You wont be asked about social approaches in the exam

7 1.Establish what approach you need to develop that factor.
For example… Physical(factor)- CRE (sub factor)-Interval Training (approach) Mental(factor)- Decision making(sub factor)- Mental imagery(approach) Emotional(approach)-fear/anxiety(sub factor)-Positive Self Talk(approach) 2.Part (b)- Make sure you know at least two evaluative points for each approach( 2 positive & 2 negative) *If you explain the wrong approach for the factor, you will not be able to access any of the marks*

8 Answering Question 3 Key Information
Recording, Monitoring and Evaluating

9 What do these terms mean?
Recording = Writing down or documenting information to refer back to at a later date (TRAINING DIARY) Monitoring = Checking your progress during a training programme. Evaluating = Checking your progress at the end of a training programme.

10 Monitoring and Evaluating Performance
Using the methods of collecting information Redoing the methods of collecting information 1.Collect Information on your performance 2.Carry out a training programme to improve weakness 3.Monitor your progress during training programme 4.Continue with training programme to improve weakness (apply any changes) 5.Evaluate your progress at the end of the training programme Redoing the methods of collecting information

11 1. REMEMBER!!!!- If your asked about a method you used to monitor or evaluate on a MESP…. These are the exact same methods we used to collect information on a MESP. For example- Cooper Test, Video Analysis , SROS, Mental toughness Questionnaire ….. 2. If the questions asks you to explain ‘why you monitor and evaluate your performance?’ YOU CANNOT SAY IT ALLOWS YOU TO IDENTIFY YOUR STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESESS TO JUSTIFY. 3. Why??? -Because we already know our strengths and weaknesses at this stage. This was identified before training programme started.

12 Answering Question 4 Key Information
The Scenario Question

13 What is the scenario question?
The scenario question will always be 4a/b and is worth 16 marks. The question is about applying your knowledge of the course and using your analysis skills in practical contexts. There is no one right answer, but there are concepts that the examiner will be expecting you to use.

14 The Structure The scenario could be any of the following: A picture
A training diary Teacher/Coach Feedback A game scenario e.g. A situation in the final minutes of a game 4a. This question will always ask you to analyse the scenario and apply the different factors to your answer (physical, mental, emotional, social) 4b. You will be asked to come up with possible solutions to the scenario. In this question you may be asked to explain or evaluate.

15 What does analyse mean? If asked to analyse you must use the evidence provided and work out what the problems are. After, identifying the problems you will then be required to support your answer with reasons why you came to your decision. For example…It says in the extract that she is only sometimes motivated. If motivation isn’t present all the time then it means she won’t be playing or trying her best some of the time. If she doesn’t try hard enough her team and the coach could get frustrated with her and start shouting and complaining at her meaning her motivation could drop even further, leaving her team effectively a man down. This would obviously leave them at a disadvantage

16 Strategies for answering the questions
Skim read the scenario to get the big picture. Read again slowly, underlining words or numbers that relate to course content or indicate a particular kind of problem.

17 Strategies for answering the question
On a separate piece of paper use each of these issues (the words you have underlined) as a heading and list the course content or theories that underlie or match them. Sent off! Decision Making Anger Concentration Fear/Anxiety Emotional Mental CRE Skill level Physical Speed

18 Follow this process to help structure your answer.
Question 1 1.Introduce the factor and make link to ‘statement’/‘words’ which you are going to explain. 2. Start your next sentence with one of the linking words e.g ‘As a result’.. ‘This means that’…’because of this’ 3. Give specific example from your activity of choice about the negative impact on performance this factor would have. e.g ’ In football passing the ball to a player who is being marked closely by the opposition. This is a bad decision as it immediately puts this player under pressure because they don't have a lot of time on the ball and they lack options. Because of this they could have the ball taken off them or play a poor pass which gets intercepted’. Question 2 Make sure and match up the correct approach with the factor you have explained in question 1 Describe the approach then explain what the benefit will be on your performance. e.g ‘ I was nervous and tense during my performance so I used deep breathing technique to calm me down. This helped to release muscle tension which then meant I was able to execute my skills more fluently.

19 FINALLY!!!…………………… Read the question Look at the number of marks that are available…. This will tell you how many extended points are needed.
