Welcome Welcome W elcome to a new school year at Jorge Mas Canosa Middle School! My name is Mrs. A. Whidden and I will be your child’s 6 th grade Science teacher. Absolutely no electronic devices should be visible or heard or else they will be confiscated. ALWAYS raise your hand if you have a question or comment; do not interrupt the teacher or another student. I dismiss you, NOT the bell. ALWAYS SHOW RESPECT TO YOUR TEACHER AND CLASSMATES.

Class Information A SSIGNMENT RULES When the bell rings you should have all your materials ready and start your warm-up activity/journal topic. Have your homework out ready to be checked or turned in. Be prepared for the day’s lesson by being respectful and paying attention. ALWAYS write your heading on the upper right hand side of the paper: name, date, period, assignment. Work quietly and don’t interrupt the working environment. Make sure you copy your homework assignment before leaving. MAKE SURE YOU ASK QUESTIONS WHENEVER IN DOUBT. ALWAYS DO YOUR BEST AND YOU’LL ACHIEVE SUCCESS! THIS WILL BE AN EXCITING AND EDUCATIONALLY REWARDING YEAR! LET’S WORK TOGETHER TO ACHIEVE SUCCESS!

Grades Y our child’s overall grade will consist of scores from tests, class assignments, home learning assignments, projects, notebook checks, composition entries, current events and class participation. Students will be informed of the weight of each assignment when given the instructions and requirements. Tests and projects will be weighted more heavily, and will usually count as two to three grades, in the overall average. No late work will be accepted! Missing assignments will result in an automatic zero. I look forward to a terrific school year and am excited about the opportunity to teach your child.
