Welcome!  Background on Mrs. Schneider  What is Earth and Environmental Science? Required for graduation Prerequisite for biology, physical science and chemistry

Classroom Expectations  Come to class on time!  Be prepared to learn!  Be respectful of others and their belongings!  Follow all school rules!

Come to Class On-time  You will be marked as tardy if the bell rings before you arrive in the classroom.  Tardy Policy: 3 rd tardy will result in after school detention Over 3 will result in ISS, etc. Tardy recorded for whole semester!  Get the things you will need and be prepared for class to start.

Be Prepared  Bring your laptops EVERY day! (they must be charged in order to use them)  Notebook/binder with paper  Pens and pencils  Homework finished  ALL bags should be placed on the floor or hanging on your chair…be sure to have everything you will need for class!

Be Respectful  To get your attention I will say “ladies and gentlemen” or “class”. You will need to quiet down and give me your attention.  Pay attention while others are talking.  Raise your hand and wait patiently to be called on.

Follow all School Rules  NO cell phones, MP3 players or headphones in class or hallways.  NO food or drinks, except for water, allowed in the classroom.  Follow the dress code

Consequences  Warning  2 nd warning, seat change, parent contact  After school detention, parent contact  Office referral/ISS/OSS  Laptops: 3 strikes policy – ISS will be issued after 3 days of not having your laptop with you and ready for use.

Classroom Procedures  Beginning of period Be in your seat getting ready to start when the bell rings. Begin working on the “Do Now” of the day. All backpacks and bags should be on the floor or hanging on your chair, so get out the things you will need!  Bathroom and drinks No bathroom breaks during first and last 10 minutes of class or during lectures/notetaking. You will need to sign out and in on the clipboard and take a pass.

Classroom Procedures  Tests and quizzes Some quizzes and tests are taken on a scan- tron or bubble sheet. #2 pencils are required! Short answer or essay questions will be written on a separate piece of paper. I will collect quizzes and tests when you are finished. Corrections can be done for partial credit on tests only. Re-write the missed question with the correct answer on a separate sheet of paper. Hand in the correct answers with the original test.

Classroom Procedures  Books Will remain in the classroom unless you obtain permission from me to check a book out. You need to return the book as soon as you are finished – be sure to sign it back in!.  Class work and homework I will give you time in class to read and to do class work/homework. Anything not completed in class needs to be finished at home. Consequence for not completing work is lowered grade or staying with me for Pirate Academy or detention.

What do you need to do now?  Be sure to pay the $5 science fee  Have your parents read and sign the handout. Return it to me ASAP.  Any questions for me?
