STGEC Indiana Statewide General Education Core

What is the STGEC? An educational core developed in response to Senate Enrolled Act 182 (2012) A way to satisfy the general education core requirements at all state universities in Indiana Courses that meet six competences in two categories – Foundational Intellectual Skills and Way of Knowing The transferring institution stamps “STGEC completed” on your transcript.

Foundational Intellectual Skills 1. Written Communication 2. Speaking and Listening 3. Quantitative Reasoning

Ways of Knowing 1. Scientific Ways of Knowing 2. Humanistic and Artistic Ways of Knowing 3. Social and Behavioral Ways of Knowing

Why is CGHS offering a blended STGEC? 1. We have a strong partnership with Vincennes University which is a national leader in academic transfer programs. 2. Since our EC students have had this opportunity for the past two years, we wanted to make this opportunity available to non-EC students. 3. The blended STGEC can save students time and money in their post-secondary educational careers.

What is the “blended” part? The thirty credit hours required for this certificate is comprised of credits from VU and other transcripted dual credits or AP dual credits. If you are counting on taking AP credits your senior year, please know your scores will not be available until July. VU will work with you over the summer if you contact them to have these grades placed on your VU transcript. Students must have 10 classes, six (or more) from VU and four from other approved programs

Possible scheduling scenarios to achieve the STGEC Jr year take AP Lang, AP US History, and ACP/AP Biology or ACP/AP Chemistry. Sr Year take ACP Calculus or ACP Finite. For those who are ready for Pre-calc, take VU MATH 102/MATH 104. You will need room in your senior year schedule to enroll in 6, one-semester VU courses, i.e. six slots in your schedule.
