Non-Verbal Communication a.k.a. Body Language

Breaking Down Communication Verbal – just the words, easiest to control Non-verbal – all the other messages you send, not so easily controlled

93% of communication is non-verbal!! All the words we use make up only 7% of our communication

Non-Verbal Communication Includes Eye contact Facial expressions Tone of voice (vocal but not verbal) Posture Proximity Timing and pace Appearance Touch

Not an Exact Science There are patterns and tendencies when it comes to reading body language but the rules are not hard and fast for everyone Bell curve When reading body language, keep in mind -culture -context -individual

Non-verbal –vs- Verbal? If there is a conflict between the non- verbal message and the verbal message………….. NON-VERBAL WINS!!! I Love You!
