Welcome to Mrs. Coleman’s 8 th grade English Language Arts Class! Room 220

TMS Bell Schedule : Period 1 8:00-8:45 Period 2 8:48-9:33 Period 3 9:36-10:21 Period 4 10:24-11:09 Period 5 11:12-11:57 Period 6 12:00:1-24 Period 7 Planning 1:27-2:12 Period 8 Planning 2:15-3:00

Breakfast  Please make sure that you eat breakfast during the scheduled time of 7:45-8:00. Once that time is up, you will not be allowed to get breakfast!  ONLY Exception!!! You come to school late.  Please make sure that ALL your trash goes into the trash can. I do not clean up after students!

Classroom Procedures  Reminder: No bathroom!!! Unless its an emergency!!!! Or you have a medical note stating otherwise.  Please sharpen your pencils upon entering the classroom.  Once you have gone to your lockers, you will NOT be allowed to go until the end of the day. Please make sure you get supplies you need for the day.  Your area MUST be cleaned before you will be dismissed from class.  Mrs. Coleman dismisses you, not the bell!

Classroom Procedures cont’d  Homework (when assigned) -please take homework out and put in right top corner of your desk upon entering the room; homework will be checked within the first 15 minutes of class starting.  Turning papers in -- one person from each group will collect all papers and get them to me.  When leaving class —if something needs to be turned in, please put your work in the correct bin. Bins will be labeled according to period you are in.  Talking —there is a time and place for everything. If Mrs. Coleman is teaching, no one should be talking! There will be plenty of times for you to collaborate with your peers.

Proper Heading for ALL work submitted In the upper most right hand corner  1 st line (first and last name);  2 nd line (date);  3 rd line (Block);  Large margin at the top/center (assignment title);  In the upper most left hand corner- group number (circled) if working in groups.  Answering a question (written): The answer must be in a complete sentence that restates the question as part of the answer. The restated part must be underlined.

Classroom Guidelines  Come to class prepared with pencils, paper, planner, and homework.  Enter the classroom on time, quietly, and sharpen pencils before sitting down.  Respect self, others, and the class.

Consequences for breaking guidelines:  Warning (teacher will remind student of guidelines), Refocus, or in teaming.  Conference with student (one-on-one).  Respect essay (written 5 or more times).  Lunch Detention  Parent contact  Office referral (hopefully it wont come to this).

Bathroom Procedures  Only 1 student will be allowed to go to the bathroom at a time (you must complete log noting the time you left and the time you returned.)  No Bathroom during instruction, unless it is an emergency or you have a medical condition that says you need to go.  ONLY use the bathrooms on the 8 th grade hall!!!!  You will only be allowed 3 minutes in the bathroom. If you aren’t back within that time, I will send a search party for you.

As a student, you will:  Always strive to do your best!  Be kind and helpful to your classmates.  Show respect for yourself, your school, and other people.  Believe in yourself.  Spend at least 20 minutes studying or reading at home daily.  Show respect for school property by not stealing or vandalizing school property.

As your teacher, I will…  Make efficient use of learning time.  Show respect for each student.  Provide a safe and comfortable environment that is conducive to learning.  Help each student grow to their full potential.  Enforce school and classroom guidelines fairly and consistently.  Use a variety of activities in the classroom to make learning fun and enjoyable.

Homework Policy  Homework will be assigned when necessary and will occur approximately 3 times per week.  It is your responsibility to complete your homework and turn it in on time as it will help you practice skills necessary to achieve mastery of the grade level standards.

When you are Absent..  You will have 2 class days per each day absent to make up work assigned for full credit.  It is your responsibility to get the work you missed.  If you know ahead of time you will be absent, please notify me so I can get your work to you.

Lunch Schedule (6th Period ONLY!)  12:15-12:45  Tables U7, U8, U10

Lunch Procedures  Please walk on the right side of the hallway.  No TALKING in the hallway.  Please sit at our assigned tables only!!!!  No yelling or shouting across the table or the cafeteria.  Please keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.  Absolutely, no horse playing in lunch line or in the cafeteria.  Table washers—please make sure area is clean. You will have 5 minutes to clean tables.

Computer Lab/Library  You will sit boy, girl, boy girl, etc.  You are to work the entire time we are there.  When we are finished in lab, items should be put back the way they were found.  When in library, your voice level should NOT be higher than a level 1.

8 th Grade Locker Schedule  Before school  After 6 th period  You will ONLY be allowed to go to lockers during your scheduled time.  Please don’t ask if you can go before or after your scheduled time!!  Exception: if you are leaving school early!
