ATLAS + NA62 DIRK MERGELKUHL

Dirk MERGELKUHL| SU pendant LS1 day| | EDMS | page 2 Quoi (quelles activités prévues pendant le LS1) The main works for ATLAS are measurements for:  Opening of detector  Update of infrastructure (3D + levelling)  Muon EEL installation on A-side  Muon EES installation on A-side  Pixel detector and beampipe (VI) extraction  Pixel works in SR1 (surface)  Muon chambers in sector 13  Update of infrastructure (3D + levelling)  Installation of Pixel, IBL and new VI  Detector closing  Experience shows that the non-planned activities can be substantial In parallel the analysis and reports for above mentioned works

Dirk MERGELKUHL| SU pendant LS1 day| | EDMS | page 3 Comment (quelles sont les procédures ?) In general as previous installation works but modifications to adapt to the actual situation in the cavern are expected.  Update of SU infrastructure will be done as previously but AT401 replaces TC2002  Detector opening and closing measurements as in previous Technical Stops  For EEL and EES installation equivalent to C-side in TS 2011/12  Muon in sector 13 as installation of Muon barrel in  Works for Pixel and VI replacement partly as for initial installation or as for scale one mock-up in building 180. Some details need still to be defined!

Dirk MERGELKUHL| SU pendant LS1 day| | EDMS | page 4 Matériel Mainly identical as use for the construction and last Technical Stops including most of the tooling. The AT401 should replace TC2002 as often as necessary (or possible) to gain in precision or time following the need. Waiting for offers for AT401 prism supports from main workshop Instruments: TC2002, NA2, D2x, AT401 Software: Carnet4000, PCTOPO32, AICON 3D Studio, Spatial Analyzer

Dirk MERGELKUHL| SU pendant LS1 day| | EDMS | page 8 Par qui (quelles sont les personnes qui vont intervenir) Dirk MERGELKUHL Vitali BATUSOV (100%) Mikhail LYABLIN (partly) Additional Russian person to replace Mikhail (partly) Contract personnel Others following needs and availability

Dirk MERGELKUHL| SU pendant LS1 day| | EDMS | page 9 Status de la préparation/problèmes non résolus Different measurements are well integrated in ATLAS planning Level of radiation unknown for beampipe measurements Targets and supports for VT beampipe still in design phase (ATLAS) Procedure to open UPS doors to LHC not really clear Full integration of AT401 including transfer to LGC and automation BCAM system for ATLAS closure still in design phase (ATLAS+SU)

Dirk MERGELKUHL| SU pendant LS1 day| | EDMS | page 10 Quoi (quelles activités prévues pendant le LS1) The main works for NA62 are measurements for:  GTK  STRAW 2, 3 and 4  RICH  LAV 8-12  Vac Tank 1, 2a, 2b, 3a, 3b  IRC  MUV1  Network update  Measurement of detectors before start In parallel the analysis and reports for above mentioned works

Dirk MERGELKUHL| SU pendant LS1 day| | EDMS | page 11 Quand (planning des activités) Our planning has to follow the NA62 planning:  Autumn 2013MUV1 and SAC  Sep-Oct 2013RICH Vessel installation, mirror and PMT after that  Summer/Autumn 2013Straw 1+2, LAV9  Spring 2014Straw 3+4, LAV , IRC, Vac Tanks, CHOD  Summer 2014Control and final adjustments  Time estimation ~ 4-6 month for a team + reports and analysis  To be ready for data taking September 2014 Par qui (quelles sont les personnes qui vont intervenir) Mateusz BORUCHOWSKI Dirk MERGELKUHL Others following needs and availability

Dirk MERGELKUHL| SU pendant LS1 day| | EDMS | page 12 Statut de la préparation/problèmes non résolus Planning less detailed than LHC experiments Some parts in design phase So far regular delays for nearly all parts Matériel Mainly identical as use as before technical run. The AT401 could replace TC2002 if helpful for certain measurements Instruments: TC2002, NA2, AT401 Software: Carnet4000, PCTOPO32, Spatial Analyzer

Dirk MERGELKUHL| SU pendant LS1 day| | EDMS | page 13 Conclusion Works for ATLAS are well understood and prepared Open issues are mostly linked to beampipe replacement where some late decisions are still outstanding LS1 will be charged but different than a xmas-TS for these 18 months  Reports must be done in parallel  ATLAS works only partly in two shifts From the actual planning the simultaneous intensive periods for ATLAS+NA62 are spring 2014 and autumn 2014  From experience delays could be possible for NA62  Main concentration with very charged period at end of LS1
