1 SPSC Questions to the 2014 NA62 Status Report 1 Beam: which is the beam structure expected in October? Which is the intensity you can reasonably expect? 2 Installation schedule can you detail a bit more the operations (and their intercon- nections) that are foreseen specifically in the period July-August-September, as far as the installation/commissioning of the detector/infrastructure/electronics are concerned? 3 Dry run: Do you foresee any new dry run before the physics run? 4 Calibraton and alignment of the detector: Can you outline in detail how you plan to calibrate/align the detector at the beginning, i.e.: 4.1 without beam using pulse/led systems for a first local intercalibration/alignment; 4.2 without beam using cosmic rays for a first global time (and space?) alignment; (can you use the cosmic rays? which is the horizontal flux at ECN3?) 4.3 with a first beam: which trigger at the very beginning? how many data and which data to perform a global time alignment (in particular for the detectors supposed to provide the L0 trigger) ?

2 4.4 how many data and which data to perform a space alignment (in particular for GTK, CEDAR, STRAWS and RICH)? A: GTK – for the space alignment: the mechanical construction of the pixel has an intrinsic resolution which is rather good. In principle we need only a global alignment. Assuming a beam width of 10 mm (rms) with 10 5 tracks one can determine the position at 30 mu level. 4.5 do you plan to perform the first space alignment with magnetic eld o? 4.6 which and how many events to perform a momentum calibration? 4.7 which and how many events to calibrate the energy scale of the LKr?

3 5 Trigger and DAQ: 5.1 L0 Trigger generation primitives system for LAV, RICH, CHOD and MUV3 still to be tested: when this will happen? 5.2 missing part is the intercommunication between dierent TEL62 boards, es- sential for those sub-detectors which are spread over more than a single board (RICH and LAV): when this will be delivered/tested? 5.3 L0 Trigger system for LKr based on TEL62 but with dierent rmware and intercommunication boards: this is on the critical path as the preproduction is expected only on June. Which is the maximum rate that these boards can substain? 5.4 L0TP: in the hands of Torino group. They are evaluating two versions of the L0TP: PC-based and fully FPGA. the choice will be based on the exibility in handling more L0 trigger conditions. ! which is the timescale for this decision? 5.5 For lower rate applications they will use the TALK board (employed during the 2012 TR) can be used. ! what does it mean "lower rate"? Can you use this board as a back-up solution for the full 2014 run?

4 6 GTK: 6.1 chips: has the issue of the bonding of chips thinned at 100 mu been solved? You claim that you should be able to evaluate the quality of the bump-bonding in the dummy modules by the end of May. The production series will be launched right after. The time foreseen to delivery the detector is 3 months.. What do you plan to do if the quality of the bump-bonding is not good enough? A: Several dummy assemblies (10) have been produced and the quality has to assessed. For the run 3 detectors are necessary. The three months refer to a production of 6 detectors and include a large contingency. If the quality is not good enough, we plan to switch to 200 mu. 6.2 micro-cooling: CEA-LETI 3S claims to be able to engage the full production with a minimum guarantee yield of 50they expect a rst minimal slot of 10 devices by summer (+ 5 devices by IceMOS): how many devices do you need in total? what do you do if you get less devices then needed? how much time is required between the delivery of the micro-cooling devices and their integration on mechanical mock-ups? A: 3 devices are necessary, 5 from IceMOS are already available. The integration time required per device is around 1 wk (?). 6.3 o-detector electronics: Which is the maximum rate tested with the current firmware present on the GTK-RO board? A: 3.2 Gbit/sec for the tTDCpix-GTK RO transmission and 320 MHz on the PCB

5 7 STRAWs: 7.1 The four CERN modules are nished. One module from Dubna is already at CERN, two modules will arrive beginning of April, last module in June. ! will the four STRAW stations be installed for the vacuum test foreseen in June or straw4 will be added later as mentioned in the last Report in January? 7.2 SRB: prototype SRBs expected to be available in May 2014 so the production can start before summer: ! how long will take the full SRB production? 8 Infrastructure: failure of the NA62 crates: what is the strategy in case these failures will continue to show up in the coming months?
