Chapter 6, Section 4 The War of 1812 Erupts 1804-Jefferson won 2nd term as president. Shortly after-Britain and France at war. 1. 1806- France refused to allow British goods into Europe. 2. Britain decided to blockade Europe. 3. By 1807- British and France had seized American ships.

British also practiced impressment. 1807-Jefferson asked Congress to declare an embargo.Embargo hurt American businesses. Congress ended the embargo. American-angry at Brit. Some wanted declare war-War Hawks- led by Calhoun and Clay.
