The Interactive Notebook Explained…... Interactive notebooks will be used to help you remember important scientific concepts. This notebook style uses the right and left brain hemispheres to help you sort, categorize and remember. You are able to creatively interact with the new knowledge you are gaining. Left Side Rules: Every left side page is used. Use color. Personalize the information. Ties to previous learning. Reorganizes information into creative formats. Right Side Rules: Start the page with the date and title at the top. Right sides used for information given in class. Teacher provides this new information.

Interactive Science Notebook Left Side: The Output Right Side: The Input Brainstorming Discovery headlines Biography posters Concept maps Your questions Cartoons Foursquare analogies and metaphors Data and graphs you generate Analysis writing Mnemonics Poetry and songs Other creative avenues for processing information SOAL: Sum of All Learned Paraphrase or clarify Items Drawing, photo, sketch or magazine picture that illustrates the concept, idea or facts Pose questions about the information Form and express and opinion Predict outcomes or next steps Formulate and record a contrary perspective Write a reflection on the information or experience Find a quote that connects to the concept Make connections between the information/text and your own life/another text/the real world Notes on a mini-lesson Notes on a lecture Notes on assigned reading Notes/story map on video Notes/story map on read aloud Notes from a small or large group discussion Copied excerpt of a text Collaborative group process material Notes and Assignments from a webquest Notes from a fieldtrip Worksheet information Quiz or test review Vocabulary Words Guest Speaker Teacher Questions Textbook Questions
