Grading Policy Tests and Projects (75%): Each quarter you will take 3 tests and complete 2 or 3 projects. All projects will be computer based and will involve basic data analysis. Many projects will involve the use of excel spreadsheets. The use of spreadsheets as mathematical tool is an important component of this course. You will need to become proficient with this tool. SAVE ALL WORK TO THE SERVER AND YOUR FLASH DRIVE.

Quizzes and Homework Quizzes (15%): Quizzes will be given at least once a week (if no test is being given that week). These quizzes will often be open note quizzes. HW/Classwork (10%): The majority of the work will be done in class, but you will have short HW assignments several times per week. Classwork in the form of notes and examples will be treated just like HW assignments. If you are absent the work must be made up. You must keep an organized notebook of classwork, notes, and HW.

HW/CW grading HW that is checked in will be recorded using a 3, 2, 1, 0 system  3: complete, neat, all work shown, demonstrates understanding  2: complete, neat, all work shown, but does not demonstrate understanding or nearly complete and demonstrates understanding  1: incomplete or no work shown  0: shows very little effort HW that is graded will be out of 10 to 20 points ( graded like tests or quizzes) No late HW will be accepted for full credit. HW can be made up with me during HW Recovery or in HW Hall

Missed HW, Quizzes, Tests No matter of the reason, you still must make up the work within 2 days THIS INCLUDES making up TESTS & Quizzes It is your responsibility to find out what you missed and get it made up in a timely manner Field trips are not an excuse…get the work in advance or that same day

Extra Help “Asking for help does not mean that we are weak or incompetent. It usually indicates an advanced level of honesty and intelligence” Monday and Thursday AFTER SCHOOL 2:40 – 3:10 Help is available in AAC and ASAP program

Classroom Expectations No cell phones Be on time Be prepared Treat others as you want to be treated Be an active learner Don’t make food and drinks an issue

Most of the work in this course will involve the completion of computer based projects and traditional math lessons and assessments. The projects will involve the use of internet resources to obtain relevant data which is then analyzed and organized using spreadsheets or other computer applications. The data analysis will include organizing the information to reach conclusions and answer questions. IT IS POSSIBLE TO EARN ONE NCCC CREDIT FOR COMPLETING THIS COURSE. What makes this course different?

Math 12 Topics Intro to Analytical Math (Spreadsheets, Algebra, Stats) Functions Ratio, Proportion, Percent Exponential Functions Logarithmic functions Quadratic Functions Financial Application of Algebra Similarity and Fractals Right triangle trig Solving triangles (trig applications

Closing Comments Math is not a spectator sport: you learn by doing This means participate in class activities and doing your homework If you do this everyday, you will be prepared for tests and quizzes

Website An electronic version of our textbook can be found under the Algebra 2 Trig resources link. I will try to post HW on a daily basis. Because different classes have different issues, this is not always possible. Check with a reliable classmate for accurate daily assignments
