2 Common questions This class is the ADVANCED biology??
YES!!! Please make sure you are aware that we cover more topics and go more in depth and faster than the Bio 1 classes…it’s advanced for a reason! Is this class weighted? Yes!! At the end of the year you get 1 honor point for an A or B. Can I handle taking this class and other advanced classes? Yes, but you must manage your time well, as you will have guaranteed homework from these classes! I don’t plan on going into biology should I still take this class? YES!!! (see next slide!!)

3 Why take PreAP Bio? Any Science/medical-related field!
UCM tuition is about $213/credit hour Bio 1 is 4 credits hours That saves over $800 of college tuition!!! UMKC $371/credit hour Bio 1 is 3 credit hours Saves over $1,000 of college tuition MU $756/credit hour Saves over $2,200 of college tuition Invest the time NOW to save money later!!!

4 What will PreAP Bio be like?
Expectation #1  take ownership of your class! In my class I expect you to work hard and come to class prepared! That means you have homework EVERY night!!! Study skills Expectation #2  Think critically and logically!!!! That includes more than just science!!! You should walk out of my class with more Science knowledge, but also as a better thinker! Expectation #3 If you are stuck on a topic, ASK FOR HELP!!!! Study groups ME!!!...AFTER YOU have tried your best and exhausted your resources

Collaboration! 7:57-8:25 You MUST sign up and I MUST sign your planner, in order to come see me! After school Arrangements can be made for after school – please let me know ahead of time so I can inform my daycare when I’ll be there to pick up my kiddos.

8 Grading 60%= Assessments (Tests and Quizzes)
20%= Lab/Project/Gizmo/Class Activities 10%= Assignments 10%= Semester Final or End of Course Exam

9 Late work policy It is YOUR responsibility to gather late/missing work!!! (See Homework hub & PreAP calendar) Missing work is accepted up for reduced credit until that unit of study’s test.
