Ms. Colon’s Procedures, Rules, Expectations School Year! 7th Grade, Life Science

Entering Room Wait at door and greet Ms. Colon with a smile Walk into room quietly Place your backpacks under lab counter near your seat. Locate Daily Trivia, Daily Assignment Sheet & Science Notebook (SNB) Take out your homework and place in Bin Begin working on trivia, IN ACTIVITY, and/or lab on your own Don’t wait for the teacher to start working!

What to Bring to Class Everyday Binder Science Notebook and Plenty of Notebook Paper Pencil and any colored pen (green) Text Book Agenda Good News & Positive Attitude

5 Classroom Rules Rule One Follow directions quickly. Rule Two Raise your hand for permission to speak. Rule Three Raise your hand to leave your seat. Rule Four Make smart choices. Rule Five Keep your dear Teacher happy.

Pledge & Announcements Stand Up withOUT the assistance of a nearby desk or table There will be NO verbal or non- verbal communication between students Listen to the announcements in their entirety Use this time to mentally prepare yourself for your day

Leaving Room Always sign in/out when given a pass to the restroom, office, errand, or nurse! Wait for Ms. Colon’s instruction to pack up your things She dismisses you, not the bell Always exit using the farthest door near prep room. Line up along side of the wall near fountain and wait for teacher direction. Line up- Boys near window. Girls along the lab counters nearest the door. Exit in a single file orderly manner.

Vocabulary Remember to: Number your words Use the assigned graphic organizer Write the complete definition Give an example, add color, and notes what did you learn new after reading the chapter. Skip a space between your words Examples can be: Spanish translation Drawing Sentence List

Pencil Sharpening Students will not sharpen their pencils while the teacher or another speaker is addressing the class Students may sharpen their pencils at the beginning of class (first 3 mins). Student has three seconds of pencil sharpening time Only one student at sharpener at a time

Grading Papers in Class Students will focus only on the paper they are grading No straining to look at your own paper Students will mark only X’s on missed answers (no  ’ s) Only use a red pen. Students will ask the teacher for clarification Students will be honest in their grading practices

Homework / Late Work Policy. Late work will be accepted for a grade no higher than a 70 Rare emergency situations will be dealt with on a case by case basis with no penalty - communication from parent or guardian is expected See homework Policy…

While you were out … If your lab partner is absent, you must complete a while you were out sheet and place in their lab binder inside pocket. If you were absent, check inside your lab binder for any while you were out sheets. Its your responsibility to talk to your lab partner about what you’ve missed. For any make-up work you must speak with the to the Teacher. You have the number of days you were absent plus one to turn in your work If you miss a lab, depending on the activity, you may have to make additional arrangements to complete the work or accept an alternative assignment

Testing Students will spread out moving their chairs near a lab counter. Only one person to a table. Students will have only pencil on desk Students will refrain from talking Students are frequently permitted to read silently when finished Upon completion of test or quiz, place it in the assigned bin. You will not be able to ask for it back, so be very cautious.

Lab Students will usually work in groups of 2-4 Groups are usually assigned by the teacher, but during certain DAs student can work with their peer of choice. All Safety Expectations will be followed Anyone not following the Safety Procedures may be removed from the lab and given an alternative assignment and consequences
