Newsletters Newsletters contain current events, vocabulary, skills worked on throughout the week, birthdays and upcoming events. They will be sent home weekly. Newsletters can also be found on my webpage.

Homework Policy Homework will be given Monday through Thursday. It should take your child NO MORE than 30 minutes to complete including their daily reading. Your child will receive a homework sheet every week. Please look over your child’s homework nightly then sign the homework sheet. The homework and homework sheet will need to be returned daily. I will check for both each morning.

Behavior Plan Students earn star magnets for good behavior, following directions, and working quietly. The student with the most magnets at the end of the week is the “Citizen of the Week”. The class earns hippos for excellent behavior. The goal is to fill up the container. Once the container is filled up the students vote on a reward.

Birthdays If you would like to celebrate your child’s birthday at school the preferred methods are; treat bags to go home with students, a book donation to the library or a book or indoor recess game donated to the classroom. We cannot have food items due to the wellness policy Kenston has adopted. Suggested treat bags ideas are pencils, erasers, stickers, and/or a small doodad.

Snack We have decided not to have a snack in the afternoon at this time due to our current lunch schedule. If we decide to have snack, it must be healthy. (No cookies, candy or chips.) The best options are fruit or vegetables.

Star of the Week – Each student will have a week to tell the class about themselves using a poster, pictures, and other items of interest to help us get to know them a little better. Estimation - We will estimate weekly as part of Star of the Week. Please keep the number of objects under 100.

Book Orders – Approximately every 4-6 weeks I will send home order forms for several book clubs. Ordering is optional. I will place the order a week later. Please make checks out to “Scholastic Books”. Guest Reader – Friday afternoons at 3:00 will be set aside for Guest Readers. The students love to see their parents come in to read to the class. To be a Guest Reader please see the sign-up sheet on the table before you leave.

I am looking forward to a terrific year with your children. Together we can build a solid foundation! Thanks for coming tonight. Don’t forget to sign up for a conference.
