6 VOLUNTEERS Please look for the sign-up on the kidney shaped table, or in our first newsletter The volunteer schedule will be determined by the number of volunteers and the daily schedule. Jobs include listening to readers, preparing materials, recording reading books, helping in the computer lab and working on special projects. We can use help outside of the classroom too! We would appreciate a phone parent to arrange special events. We also need a parent to manage Scholastic Book orders online.

7 Birthday Snacks Arranged Holiday Events Parties Special Learning Activities

8 You’ve Got Mail!! Mail and homework is sent home in your child’s Take Home Folder. Please make it a habit to check the folder nightly and support your child in returning the folder daily. Each child is responsible for getting their own mail into their folders and we do not have enough time to check backpacks for notes. A guided reading book, a “Just Right” classroom book and library books are each sent home once a week on different days in their READING BAG. “Words To Know” are sent home with the reading book. These are vocabulary words which we test each week. We are unable to distribute invitations for anything unless every child is invited… We read your notes immediately in the morning.

9  Return “Just Right” reading books every Monday  Library books must be returned by your child’s library day  Make sure your child’s supplies are replenished throughout the year  Create a time for your child’s homework and help monitor their reading and math assignments.

14 SPELLING This spelling program is based on the teaching of strategies, not short-term memorization of words. Our spelling is the Sitton Spelling Program. This is a research-based approach to spelling and word-skill literacy and it has evidence of showing that every child can become a speller and a wordsmith toward successful writing.

25 Dismissal PLEASE go over what your child will be doing at dismissal. Will they be on a bus, will they be picked up or staying afterwards at Kid’s Club? Letting me and your child know how and where to go at dismissal makes your child’s day so much more successful.

26 It is going to be a great year!
