1 Welcome to Back to School Night! Miss Stratis Room 25 Third Grade 289-1734 ext. 2125 margo.stratis@venturausd.org

2 Who is Miss Stratis?  I have 2 children: Melissa and Stephen.  I have been a teacher for over 20 years.  I have a bachelor degree from UCSB.  I have a teaching credential from CSUN.  I have a master’s degree from Walden U.  I love to read, cook, do art, work out at the gym, and swim.  I also love being a teacher!!

3 Attendance  Class begins at 8:00 a.m.  Class ends at 2:25 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.  Class ends at 12:20 p.m. on Wednesdays.  Punctuality is extremely important!  Attending class regularly is crucial to school success!

4 Homework  Homework is an extension of the school curriculum and regular completion is critical to academic success!  Daily Excel.  Daily homework packets.  Nightly Reading Minutes.  100 Reading Minutes are due weekly.

7 Classroom Rules  5 I-Care Rules: 1. We listen to each other. 2. Hands are for helping, not hurting. 3. We use I-Care Language. 4. We care about each other’s feelings. 5. We are responsible for what we say and do.  Behavior forms  Praise and other positive reinforcement

8 How do I know what my child is learning?  Please talk to them each day about school.  Weekly Newsletters: please fill out the form given out tonight if you would like these sent to your e-mail or you would like a hard-copy.  Parent-teacher conferences 2x a year.  Refer to copy of the report card and Third Grade Standards.  Call or send me an e-mail.

9 Wish List  Kleenex  Antiseptic wipes  Snacks: crackers, pretzels, granola bars...  Guinea pig bedding, food, and treats  Treasure box items

10 Classroom Volunteers  Each class at Portola needs a “Room Parent.” This can be shared by two parents.  I love having help in or out of the classroom. Please sign the volunteer list.  Check in at the office and come on in!

12 How can I help my child learn and succeed in school?  Support the completion of homework.  Listen to my child read and ask questions (i.e. “Tell me about what you just read?”)  Read the Everyday Math unit letters.  Read the weekly newsletter together.  Look over completed work and talk about it.  Ask the teacher questions.  Praise your child for their hard work and efforts in school.

13 Birthdays  You are welcome to bring treats to class in honor of your child’s birthday.  Please try to schedule this in advance.  Healthy treats are highly encouraged!  Summer birthdays: Talk to me about scheduling a celebration.

14 Snacks  Your children often get hungry between breakfast and lunch.  I highly recommend that your child bring a healthy snack to eat at our first recess.  Water bottles are allowed in the classroom.
