Social Studies / Grade 5 Social Studies is based on the history and geography of the Western Hemisphere, including the development of cultures, civilizations, and empires; interaction between societies; and the comparison of the government and economic systems of modern nations. It also incorporates elements of archaeology. The course is divided into seven Key Ideas that cover a time span from prehistory into modern times.

8. Homework Policy  The students will receive homework nightly. (ex. spelling, math pages, social studies terms, independent reading etc.)  Everything we do is listed on the SMART Board after Lunch. Students receive ample time to fill out their agenda. It is a great form of communication between teacher and parents.  The purpose of homework is to practice what has been learned in school.  The students will receive homework nightly. 11. Book Club Orders Only checks or money orders will be accepted. Make them payable to “Scholastic Book Club.” Send the order and payment to school in an envelope with the child’s name on it. Birthdays  Yes, we still celebrate birthdays in 5th grade.  We currently have 18 students in our class.  If you plan on sending in a treat please include all necessary items for the celebration.  Students are no longer allowed to take treats to other classrooms due to allergies in the building.
