Rome is located on the Mediterranean Basin.

Italian Peninsula Rome was located on the Italian Peninsula, it had the Alps for protection as well as the Mediterranean Sea for trading.

Roman Mythology Rome was polytheistic, which means, they believed in multiple gods. Their gods were based on everyday objects and also nature gods. Romans used gods as excuses for everyday phenomena.

Examples of Gods Some examples of Roman gods include: Jupiter, Juno, Apollo, Diana, Minerva, and Venus

Symbols Gatorade Symbol = Zeus’s Lightning Bolt. Nike, the Goddess of Winning.

Patricians: Powerful land-owning nobles that were little in numbers. Plebeians: Were the majority of the population. Slaves: The slaves were not based on race but were prisoners of war. Social Classes:

Who were citizens? Citizens included: Patrician and Plebeian men and some select foreigners. Slaves were NOT citizens.

Consuls Rome had two 1 year termed leaders known as consuls. The Consuls were the law-makers.

12 Tables The 12 tables was Rome’s written code system. The 12 tables were written down so the Patricians couldn’t change the laws whenever they wanted to.

Carthage with Hannibal Rome was in many battles with Carthage and their ruler, Hannibal. The two were always fighting for the Mediterranean Sea’s trading routes. Carthage Mediterranean trade routes

Army of Hannibal The army of Hannibal had many soldiers with massive elephants which would stomp on enemies, leading their army to victory.

Julius Caesar Julius Caesar announced himself as Rome’s dictator for life which means he had all the power in Rome. Julius led Rome through many victorious battles.
