Mrs. Geer Math for College Readiness Geometry

Classroom Rules  Be in your seat when the bell rings.  Have your supplies with you. (Notebook, pencil, etc.)  Immediately start working on the problem on the overhead.  No food or drink except water in a clear container.  Do not leave your seat without permission.

More Classroom Rules  Gum is allowed unless it becomes a problem. No gum under the desks. No popping of gum.  No cell phones or other electronics except calculators. Cell phone calculators will be used with permission only.  NO FIGHTING, BICKERING, NAME CALLING, ETC.

DO NOW ALL CLASSES  HAVE YOUR SPIRAL NOTEBOOK OUT AND READY TO GO.  DO NOT GO AHEAD ON ANYTHING WE DO TODAY.  PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS SO THAT YOUR NOTEBOOK IS SET UP CORRECTLY.

INTERACTIVE NOTEBOOKS A BETTER WAY OF NOTE TAKING

Interactive Notebooks (INB’s)  An Interactive notebook will help you move from your present system of random note taking to a professional organized information storage system. Ask yourself … 1) Do I ever have trouble finding my notes? 2) Is my paper filled backpack doubling as my science/math/history folder? 3) Am I ever confused about what to study when a test is coming up?

Why Use Interactive Notebooks?  The Interactive notebook REQUIRES you to use color to highlight and mark “need to know” information.  Everyone in your class will be on the same page in their Interactive Notebook. This makes it easier for us to communicate AND it makes it easy for you to catch up after an absence.  The Interactive Notebook uses a table of contents, numbered pages, and page “addresses” to help you find information.

LABELING THE FRONT COVER USING A PERMANENT MARKER, PLACE THE FOLLOWING LABELS ON YOUR FRONT COVER. FOLLOW THE ORDER BELOW: 1. YOUR NAME 2. (POWERS) 3. YOUR PERIOD/SUBJECT 4. SCHOOL YEAR Pat Benatar (Ray) Period ?/Math

The Big Idea Left Page Student Output : This is where you show your understanding of the new concepts that you are learning in class. Examples: 1. Writing and reflection 2. Define vocabulary 3. Answer E.Q. questions/Exit problems 4. Brainstorming diagrams 5. Making connections 6. Graphing 7. Graphic organizers 8. Summary/conclusions 9. Applying what you know to the real world Right Page Input: The right page in your notebook is mostly for work you do in class with your teacher and other classmates. Examples: 1. Essential questions 2. Cornell Notes 3. Procedures 4. Labs/Observations 5. Data 6. Key Words

Interactive Notebook Page Numbering Left Page Left pages are always numbered with even numbers. The page number is placed in the left side of the page in the bottom corner. 2 Right Page  Right pages are numbered with odd numbers.  The page number is placed in the right side of the page in the bottom corner. 3

Page Titles: All page titles are teacher generated with the date directly beneath the title. They are placed at the top, OUTSIDE edge, not near the spine. Circuit Lab diagram 10/7/13 (left page) 8 Circuit Lab Report 10/7/13 (right page) 9

INSTALLING  Handouts are “installed” in the INB using tape or gluesticks.  Usually, this involves trimming the handout with scissors to fit the spiral notebook page.  Be neat, be careful, and use only enough tape or glue to attach the paper securely. You do NOT need to tape the entire border of a handout. Small tabs of tape in the corners and centers will work just fine.

The First 2 Pages  PAGE ONE: Table of Contents For Your Interactive Notebook. This is by unit so there will be several of these throughout the year.  Trim and install the TABLE OF CONTENTS on page 1 of your INB.  PAGE TWO: Interactive Notebook Rubric. This tells you how I will grade your INB. Use this as a checklist to ensure that your INB is complete and accurate.  Trim and install the RUBRIC on page 2 of your INB.

Now update your table of contents Left-Side ItemsPag e Right-Side ItemsPag e Table of Contents 1 8/20/131 Grading Rubric 8/20/ Be Careful to start with page # 1 on the right side of your Table of Contents. There is no left page at the beginning of a notebook.

Connections Pages are unit review pages. They spread across two pages in the notebook and summarize and restate the need to know information found in the current unit section of the interactive notebook. They are the “test review” and must include graphics as well as text.
