4.  An interactive science notebook (ISN) is your own personalized DIARY of science learning  It is a portfolio of your work in ONE convenient spot. This is great for studying for upcoming quizzes & tests!  It is a great ORGANIZATIONAL tool that gives you permission to be PLAYFUL AND CREATIVE in your responses without "messing up" your notes.  It allows you to THINK, RECORD AND REFLECT like a REAL SCIENTIST ! ISN

7. The LEFT SIDE is for “LEARNING” and contains only information given by Mrs. Bones -Nothing else should be placed on the LEFT side! This is the “input” side. The RIGHT is for your “REFLECTION” and helps you review and reflect on what you have learned …. It s student work. This is the side that you can use to show me your. This is the “output” or product side. The notebook is divided into TWO sections.

8. The LEFT SIDE should only contain information given or “input” from Mrs. Bones. Nothing else should be placed on this page! The LEFT SIDE contains all the TESTABLE material. ODD pages = 1, 3, 5, 7 etc. ISN

11. The RIGHT SIDE belongs to you. On this page you may include stories, diagrams, cartoons, drawings, poems, foldables, thinking maps, etc. The right side should be COLORFUL and include LOTS of writing. Let your go wild! EVEN pages = 2, 4, 6, 8 etc.

20. Any student that expects to earn an A on the ISN will be the one who has taken the time to consistently include assigned right side assignments that show application of concepts and skills taught in class for each left side work provided by Mrs. Bones.

21. Notebooks will be scored at the end of each unit, worth 40 points -see the ISN Grading Rubric in your ISN Booklet. All left-side and right-side assignments should be included, even for the days in which you were absent. This includes each being recorded in the table of contents. Right sides should have color and demonstrate understanding. All assignments should be thorough and complete with titles, dates and page numbers.

22. Normally class time is given to work on left side assignments and sometimes this includes time to work on a right side. The expectation is that for homework each night you will revisit the left side to review the material by completing a right side activity. Once you have a good understanding of the kinds of right side activities that can be done, it should take you about 15 minutes to complete a right side.

23. All assignments are posted on the class Share Point website. Handouts can be picked up from the handout box in class. It is your responsibility to complete all missed assignments and place them in your ISN where they belong. See a classmate and/or the teacher before or after class if you have additional questions.
