Setting the Stage for 3rd Grade ★ Multiplication/Division, SC History, Cursive handwriting ★ Projects & Field Trips ★ Extra fun activities- Poetry Day, SC Day, Wax Museum

★ Homework will be assigned Monday through Thursday. Your child is for responsible for his or her homework. It will be written on the board first thing in the morning and will stay up all day. Please check their homework assignment sheet and folder daily. Homework should be done in pencil. ★ Reading log ★ Study Guides will be given at least two nights before the test. (Math, Science and Social Studies.) ★ Projects will be assigned at least 2 weeks in advance. They will be counted as a major test grade. ★ Late or no homework will count as a negative point towards your child’s citizenship grade. ★ MBS – Must Be Signed

School Supplies Needed ● 12 #2 pencils and 1 large pencil pouch ● 1 pack of 24 count crayons ● 1 box of crayons (16 or 24 count) ● 1 pack of glue sticks ● 1 pack of washable markers ● 1 pack of Pink Pearl erasers ● 6 marble wide ruled composition notebooks ● 2 packs of wide-ruled notebook paper ● 1 three ring binder with clear view pocket (1 inch) ● 6 folders with brads (red, blue, yellow, orange, green, purple) ● 1 pack of sticky notes ● 1 pair of ear buds

The Total Score ★ Math, Reading, Science, Social Studies: 40% Daily Grades and Quizzes 60% Tests and Projects ★ Writing: 80% ★ Spelling: 15% ★ Daily Work/Quizzes: 5% Major assignments and projects not turned in on due date will receive 5 points off each day they are late. Students are expected to be active learners in my classroom. They are expected to be responsible for their work and behavior.

Rockin’ Behavior ★ Calhoun’s Essential 10 ★ Positive/Negative points for behavior ★ Students earn brag tags and other incentives for positive points. ★ Character Education focus this year through a grant that I wrote.

Third Grade Expectations In third grade we expect… ★ Responsibility and Accountability ★ Respect ★ Hard Work ★ Positive Attitudes ★ Cooperation ★ Partnership when working with others ★ Time Management

I ask parents to... ★ Encourage independence in your child ★ Check your child’s homework binder daily ★ Discuss what we are learning in class with your child ★ Help your child prepare for tests by using study guides ★ Sign and clean out your child’s Friday Folder each week ★ Keep study guides and tests to help prepare for state testing ★ Have your child to school on time each day ready to learn! ★ Aid your child in understanding that they are responsible for their actions each and every day. The choices they make will have consequences. Support! Your support is valued more than you ever know and together we can make a wonderful team!

Stay tuned in... ★ /Phone/Website/Notes ★ Conferences should be scheduled with the teacher in advance as needed. ★ You must sign in with the office using LobbyGuard. This is for the safety and security of your child and others at Calhoun. ★ We ask that parents only visit the classroom if they are volunteering or have an appointment with the teacher. ★ Homework Binder and Friday Folder ★ Parent Portal - visit the front office to sign up Friday Folders ★ Friday folders are sent home each Friday and should be returned signed on Monday. (Please clean out unneeded items.)

Our Daily Playlist ★ Lunch: 11: :16 ★ Related Arts: 12:25 - 1:15 * Monday – Art * Tuesday – PE Guidance 10: :55 * Wednesday – Dance 10:05 – 10:55 Library (Week 1) * Thursday – Drama 8:20 - 9:05 * Friday – Music (All Schedules will be posted on my website and outside my classroom door!)

Some Final Note... The Anderson District V Packet ★ This year you will not receive an Anderson District V Packet of information to take home. ★ You should have received a letter over the Summer from the school district regarding the new Gateway program. ★ All parents/guardians are required to register their child online. Every new or returning student must be entered into this new program. ★ To register your child you will need to have internet access and the student code identified in the letter you received. ★ If you have questions about how to register your child you can see the Calhoun front office and someone can assist you.

Items for Mrs. Cole ★ Getting to know Mrs. Cole letter ★ Classroom Flip Book ★ Volunteer Sheet ★ Contact Information Sheet ★ Transportation/Sibling Sheet Please leave the Contact Information Sheet, Transportation Sheet, and Volunteer Sheet where you are sitting so that I can collect those. Be on the lookout for a Parent Survey. This front and back survey will allow me to better understand your child through your eyes.

Other Odds and Ends... ★ Changes in how your child gets home must be in writing! Please keep this in mind as you plan ahead for appointments or other changes in your child’s regular schedule. ★ Students should not bring toys, cell phones, or other non school related items to school! Please check their book bag often for items that need to stay at home. ★ Please help your child stay organized! ★ If your child must bring a purse to school please write a note explaining why. ★ Attendance is important and children should arrive to school on time. Information about attendance has been highlighted on the yellow sheet inside your packet. ★ Breakfast will end at 7:30 each morning. ★ No under the bus ramp drop off in the morning. ★ Students should be picked up in the afternoons by 2:50. ★ Because of the Healthy Foods and Snacks policy for SC, we will have ABSOLUTELY NO OUTSIDE FOOD BROUGHT INTO THE LUNCHROOM BY PARENTS during the lunch serving times. Please plan to eat a school lunch with your child.

Thank you! I’m looking forward to a great year with your child in third grade. Together we can make this a successful school year. Please make sure to leave your child’s information sheets with me.
