Finalizing the list 6-8 colleges in a range of selectivity levels Be certain there are target, reach and less competitive schools on your list Consider GPA, rigor of program, test scores, profile of most recent admitted class Use web-based resources to narrow list College Board search program, Common Data Set, CollegeData.com-College Chances

Application Options Early Decision - (Binding) Early Action - ( Non-Binding) UVM Early Action for Vermonters: November 1, 2014 Rolling Admissions - (Non-Binding) Vermont State Colleges are rolling admissions. Regular Decision - (Non-Binding) Decision Days - (Johnson State College)

Components of the Application –Personal information –Activities, work, service, awards/honors –Essay(s) –Teacher recommendations (green form to request 2-3 letters in-person, e-invite after) –Test Scores (direct from testing company) –Official transcript, report card, secondary school report and teacher letters sent through Naviance/Family Connection –Application fee (paid by credit card) or fee waiver

The Common Application On-line application not available in paper version Don’t forget the individual “Member Questions” from colleges Request teacher recommendations and transcripts through Naviance Read the screen!

Naviance: Requesting and sending Official Transcripts Signed release form required (white form) Log on to Naviance Family Connection at Request transcripts for each college at least 5 days before deadline Official transcript, most recent report card, letters of recommendation, Secondary School Report and BHS profile will be sent electronically to your colleges

Financial Aid and Scholarships Paying For College Night- November 13, 2014 at 7:00 pm, BHS Cafeteria CSS Profile for private colleges may be due by December-check websites FAFSA available January 1, 2015-must be completed on-line Vermont Grant Application can be found on VSAC website BHS Scholarship opportunities- see list Net Price Calculator required on college websites

NCAA Requirements for College Sports Register with the NCAA Eligibility Center to be able to play Division 1 or Division 2 college sports Request your official transcript to be sent to the NCAA Eligibility Center See brochure for more details

Most colleges will require a decision about your attendance by May 1, You will need to pay a deposit to reserve your spot at that college or university. Questions? Thank you for attending tonight!
