2 Applying to 4 Year College
“How many schools should I apply to?” Different for everyone Recommended: At least 1 NJ school to qualify for resident-only grants, scholarships, etc. 1 Safe School Don’t forget about Application Fees $50 or more for each Narrow your selection before applying

3 Applying to 4 Year College
Common Application Standardized first-year application form Accepted by more than 500 colleges Many colleges request additional “supplements” through Common App Request transcripts through Guidance Counselor

5 Early Decision Legally binding Must attend if accepted
If accepted, you must withdraw all other college applications

6 Earlier deadline than regular admission with early decision delivery

7 Regular Admission Rolling Deadline
Applications are evaluated as they are received Deadline Applications are only reviewed after a single deadline date Earlier submission does not equal earlier acceptance

9 Online Admission Application
Submit an online application for each school you are applying to using: The college’s online application OR Application through Common App (if applicable)

10 SAT Scores YOU are responsible for sending your SAT scores
YOU must log on to your CollegeBoard account and request to have your scores sent When registering, be sure to enter names of the schools where you plan to apply Make sure you send scores directly from CollegeBoard CollegeBoard will charge an additional $11.25 per score report requested beyond the 3 you indicate on your initial registration

Strength/rigor of classes taken 9th-12th grade Resume Submit the resume you created to your counselor for your college application file

12 Letters of Recommendation
If using CommonApp Check how many recommendations each individual college requires Most require at least 1 TEACHER recommendation Ask for them ASAP! Provide your recommender with your resume Be sure to write a Thank You note

13 Essay/Extracurriculars
Tailor responses to each individual college as needed Extracurriculars Activities Athletics Honors and Awards Should be included on resume

14 NCAA Clearinghouse For students intending to play collegiate sports for a Division I or Division II school Visit eligibilitycenter.org to apply

15 Do Senior Year Grades Matter?
YES! 1st Marking Period grades will be sent with transcripts Most colleges will ask for mid-year and final grades If you are struggling, ask teachers or counselor for help Many colleges/universities will rescind offer of admission if a students slacks senior year

16 Deadlines You are responsible for keeping track of when applications are due APPLY EARLY! Plan to submit all 4-year applications before winter break Transcript Requests At least 1 week prior to application deadline All requests must be mailed by December 12th in order for transcripts to be sent out before winter break

17 Visiting College Campuses
Get a letter from the College Admissions Office Ask Admissions Officer about an application fee waiver

18 Rowan College of Gloucester County
Students want to earn an Associate’s Degree or professional certificate in a specific career program or trade (e.g. dental hygiene, automotives, medical assistant, etc.) NJSTARS Program Students who graduate in top 15% of their class are eligible Attend RCGC tuition-free for 2 years
