2 The Admissions Folder: What’s in it? When a student applies to college, the college admission office collects a folder of information to consider as they make a decision about the application. Students and parents should be aware of the parts of an applicant’s folder. Senior Resume: Extracurricular activities/sports Employment Community Service Admission Test Scores: SAT Reasoning SAT Subject Tests ACT COLLEGE APPLICATION Essay Recommendations: Teacher Counselor Coach/Advisor/Employer Transcript

3 Application Options College issued vs. common application Paper vs. online application Electronic Applications (New Age) –Print confirmation –Know your School Pin Number to check status –Confirm with college that they have received your application material –Be a wise consumer –Personal Accountability

5 Requesting a Transcript Requests for transcripts must happen at least TEN (10) DAYS prior to any deadline. $3 fee per transcript *. You can list more than one school per request. Include deadline on request form for each school listed. *Fee is added to student obligations paid at the end of the year prior to graduation. Do not bring in money with your request.

6 Application Submission Deadlines Application Deadline: November 1st November 15th December 1st December 15th January 1st January 15th February 1st February 15th March 1st MHS Request Deadline: October 18th October 31st November 15th December 1st December 11th January 2nd January 18th February 1st February 8th All requests of MHS must be made 10 school days prior to the application deadline. Included in the request: Transcript release form, any secondary/high school forms that must be completed by guidance and paper application if not applying on line.

7 Financial Aid & Application Deadlines When applying Early Action or Early Decision check with the college if you need to complete a CSS Profile or Preliminary FAFSA forms for Financial Aid Many schools only offer Merit Scholarships with Early Action applications; check with each college.

9 Application Reminders Know your deadlines! Especially for specific programs, i.e. nursing or physical therapy. Begin/continue to work on your essay(s). Don’t wait until the last minute. Be mindful of rolling admissions; don’t wait until the final deadline apply as early as possible (after 1 st term grades).
