What does HR involve? Recruiting Selecting Training & Developing Employees Dealing With Turnovers

Recruiting Process of attracting individuals to apply to jobs, checking the applicants’ qualifications and hiring the best suited individuals First step: Identify jobs description with requirements and responsibilities Second step: internally or externally ▫Internally – post job notice within the company or rely on word-of-mouth advertising. They can transfer employees across departments or promote people within specific departments ▫Externally – post job advertisements in newspapers, trade journals, the company’s website or various employment websites.

Selecting A step-by-step process used to select employees from a group of candidates 1.Applications fill out application forms or a resume 2.Company identifies the application that best fits the job 3.Applicant has one or more interviews with the manager 4.Company checks the applicant’s credentials, and call references

Training and Developing Employees Training: teaching skills that are learned by practice. Development: the long process of upgrading an employee’s performance over time by giving him/her opportunities to grow (i.e. seminars, workshops etc.). Begins on the first day of the job and can continue to as long as the person is working at the company Assessing Employee Performance Tell employees what is expected of them (performance standards) Compensating Employees Compensation (wages/salary + benefits) is said to be the largest operating expense for most businesses. Payment is difference across jobs, some are paid weekly, by the hour, or even by commission

Dealing With Turnovers In terms of an employee not following up to his/her expectations, action must be taken It is up to the owner on the consequences of the employee; they could be warned, suspended, or even permanently dismissed. In case of dismissal or if the employee were to quit, a series of questions might generally be asked about what went wrong
