The study of everything on Earth

Study how the natural environment influences people, how people’s activities affect Earth, and how the world is changing Cities, cultures, plants, and resources Where these things are or where related events happened

Human Geography Study of distribution and characteristics of the world’s people (where people live and what they do Examines how people make and trade things that they need to survive Physical Geography Focuses on Earth’s natural environments including landforms, water features, plants, animals, and other physical features Studies the processes that shape the physical environment

Geography-the study of everything on Earth including people and places Landscape-the scenery of a place and all its features Cartography-study of maps and mapmaking Meteorology-study of weather Region-area with features that make it different from surrounding areas

Formal—Has one or more common features that make it different from surrounding areas (desert) Functional—Different places that are linked together and function as a unit (central point) Perceptual—Reflects human feelings and attitudes (mid-west, south, east coast)

Formal Regions: Rocky Mountains, Rust Belt, Sahel Functional Region: City Transit Systems, shopping malls, cities Perceptual Regions: Home, the South
