Information Services and Systems Welcome to Information Services & Systems A photo tour of the Library to help you find your way around.

Information Services and Systems The Library Situated on the main Singleton Campus, this will be the focus for most students. There is also a branch library, the South Wales Miners’ Library located at Hendrefoelan Student Village, that is part of ISS.

Information Services and Systems Issue Desk The Issue Desk is in the Library’s Central Hall. Books & other materials can be borrowed, renewed, or returned from this point. Fines can be paid at this desk. Undergraduates can borrow up to 15 items at any one time. Postgraduates can borrow up to 25 items at any one time.

Information Services and Systems Self Issue Machines The Self Issue machines are in the Library’s Central Hall. Avoid Issue Desk queues to borrow books by simply inserting your student card and scanning the items you want to borrow. You will be issued with a receipt. You may also renew your items at these machines and pay any fines you may have either by card or cash.

Information Services and Systems Self return machines The self return unit is located around the corner from the Library entrance at the top of the stairs. Return your items at this machine. Follow the on screen step by step instructions. You will be issued with a receipt as proof of return.

Information Services and Systems Information Desk The Information Desk is located in the Library’s central hall. The librarians here can help with queries about using the library catalogue and finding and using print and electronic resources on your subject. If you have any difficulty in finding what you want, ask them for help.

Information Services and Systems Careers Reception Careers Reception is located in the Library’s Central Hall. Don’t know what you want to do? Just drop in for a chat. Information on hundreds of occupations. Careers staff can assist with: Individual advice and guidance Placements and term time work Information on employers …and much more!

Information Services and Systems Student IT Support Desk Staff here will help with any problems concerning - – Open Access PCs – Wireless registration – Your account – Your network account – Using scanners – Printing – Using software such as Word, Excel, etc.

Information Services and Systems Central Hall Bookcase Careers books, guides and leaflets. New books – recently added to library stock. Study skills books. College resources guides – prepared for you by your subject librarians. Help yourself to the database guides.

Information Services and Systems iFind Discover – Library catalogue iFindDiscover can be quickly accessed via the PCs and NetBooks in the Central Hall and via the ISS home page anywhere. This is a big, multi-subject library. iFind Discover is the only effective way to find out where the items you need are located. You can: SEARCH RENEW REQUEST

Information Services and Systems Finding books on the shelves Use iFind Discover to find out the call number for a book. Each call number represents a subject, e.g QA = Science Identify the Floor where the call number is found. Call numbers are found on the spine of a book and are a series of letters and numbers eg QA76.16.L for computer science books.

Information Services and Systems Not just books … You will also find DVDs, journals, newspapers, PCs, photocopiers, printers, scanners, study areas, databases…

Information Services and Systems Study Hall On the left side of the Hall are study places with flat-screen PCs, and on the right side are group study areas.

Information Services and Systems …and the Study Hall Reference Collection In the centre of the Study Hall and around some of the perimeter is the Reference Collection. Here you will find encyclopedias, dictionaries and other reference works.

Information Services and Systems Zoning – silent study areas Look out for different areas for silent, quiet or group study: Silent study area Quiet study area Group study area Please switch off your mobile phone whenever you come into the Library.

Information Services and Systems Printing, Photocopying & Scanning Black & white and colour printers available – Study Hall, Gallery & PC rooms Photocopiers – on Level 2 Pay for your printing and photocopying by putting money on your student card (using a Revaluer machine – on Levels 2 & 4) Scanners also available.

Information Services and Systems MyUni/ MyHub Click on Current Students on SU home page to login to MyUni. Use MyUni to access: ; Blackboard; Library resources; Intranet; File space; Pebblepad; Wireless Account.

Information Services and Systems Saving your work All university students have 100MB of space on the P drive (the Open Access network.) This is the safest, most secure and cheapest place to save your work. E drive can be used by students who have USB memory sticks.

Information Services and Systems Swansea Wireless Internet Service If you own a laptop or desktop PC with wireless capability you can use it anywhere in the Library, Singleton campus halls and dining areas and Hendrefoelan to pick up the University network ( and P drive). Register first. If you own a laptop without wireless capability – either buy a wireless card at the Issue Desk or use a docking port on Level 4 Study Hall. Register first.

Information Services and Systems the Library There is a Costa coffee shop at the entrance of the Library. Enjoy a cup of coffee with classmates or have a light snack to keep you going!
