Examples of Persuasive Techniques in Advertising Bandwagon Bandwagon is an appeal to the subject to follow the crowd. Since everyone else is buying it, they will be left out if they don’t.

Glittering Generalities are words that have positive meaning and are linked to highly valued concepts such as freedom, liberty, democracy, honor, and loyalty.

Rewards convinces the consumer that a little extra is included or that the consumer gets more for his or her money.

Testimonial is an attempt to connect a famous person to a product or item.

Plain Folks Plain Folks is an appeal to the common person doing common things in a common way

Transfer is an attempt to make the consumer view two subjects in the same way.

Fear Fear convinces the consumer that if they don’t make a purchase, something bad will happen.

Name-Calling is the use of negative language or words that convinces the consumer to choose one product over another. Commonly used in political ads.
