The Communication Process & You

* Communication that occurs in one’s own mind; also called “self-talk”

process you use to assign meaning to data about yourself or the world around you * There are 3 perceptions…

Physical process of taking data through the senses

mental process of choosing which data/stimuli to focus on from all that are available to you at a given time 1. Intensity – the more intense 2. Repetition – over & over 3. Uniqueness – new & unusual 4. Relevance – mirror our own interests

THINK, PAIR, SHARE What were the first perceptions displayed by each of the communicators?
