4 To achieve a strong sense of mental health you need to assess your level of mental wellness Bypass roadblocks to mental health Evaluate the positive and negative feedback that has influenced your self-esteem and work to improve your self-esteem by: Identify the negative feedback of your past Replace negative self-talk with constructive criticism

7 MASLOW’S HIERARCHY OF NEEDS Human beings have basic needs and when these needs are continuously not met---- mental and physical illness can occur Abraham Maslow, an American psychologist, tried to explain human needs by organizing them into a Hierarchy of Needs ( SEE page 193)

8 physical needs -hunger, thirst, shelter, safe environment

9 Emotional needs need to belong, to achieve to be loved

10 Aesthetic needs to know, explore and understand

11 Self-fulfilling Needs Need for self- actualization

12 PERSONALITY TRAITS TO achieve mental health, one must realize there are different personality traits.

14 Personality may be affected by: Environment

15 Personality may be affected by: PERSONALBEHAVIOR We have control over this!

16 EMOTIONS AND SELF ESTEEM YOUR FEELINGS affect everything you do. Your relationships, your thinking, your success and your failures are all affected by your feelings
