Vocabulary Skill: the prefixes dis- and de- The prefix “ de- ” means “ reduce, ” “ remove, ” or “ not ”. (such as deprived) The prefix “ dis- ” also means “ not, ” as well as “ apart ”. (such as disorder) These are two very common prefixes that come before nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs to form many words in English

Vocabulary: P.120 (A) 1 deduct: when you deduct an amount from a total, you subtract it from the total (deduct=subtract) 2 detach: if you detach one thing from another that it is fixed to, you remove it; if one thing detaches from another, it becomes separated from it (detach=take off) 3 discharge: when someone is discharged from hospital, prison, or one of the armed services, they are officially allowed to leave (discharge=release)
