3 Paragraph 1 1 spontaneous (adj.): a. spontaneous acts are not planned or arranged, but are done because someone suddenly wants to do them; b. a spontaneous event happens because of processes within something rather than being caused by things outside it. 2 combustion (n): combustion is the at of burning something or the process of burning (a technical term, such as internal combustion engine) 3 burn, burning, burned, burnt

4 Paragraph 1 4 ventilated (adj.): exposed to air, especially to a current of fresh air 5 victim (n): someone or something that suffers from an accident, crime, illness, or bad luck. 6 a heap of (something) is a pile of them 7 grease (n): a. a thick, oily substance which is put on the moving parts of cars and other machines in order to make them work smoothly; b. an oily substance that is produced by your skin

5 Paragraph 1 8 ceiling (n): a ceiling is the horizontal surface that forms the top part or roof inside a room 9 blaze (n): a large fire which is difficult to control and which destroys a lot of things (used in journalism)

6 Paragraph 2 1 supposedly: as it seems, so it is assumed 2 burst into (a situation): it you say that something bursts into a particular situation or state, you mean that is suddenly changes into that situation or state 3 flame (n): a hot bright stream of burning gas that comes from something that is burning 4 put out (v): to extinguish a fire

9 Paragraph 4, 5 and 6 5 inside-out (adj.): reversed 6 fabric (n): frame, structure, texture 7 scenario (n): a. if you talk about a likely or possible scenario, you are talking about the way in which a situation may develop; b. the scenario of a film is a piece of writing that gives an outline of the story 8 pour (v): if you pour a liquid or other substance, you make it flow steadily out of a container by holding the container at an angle

10 Paragraph 4, 5 and 6 9 persuade (v): if you persuade someone to do something, you cause them to do it by giving them good reasons for doing it 10 burst into flame: to combust, to catch fire
