3 Vocabulary: Paragraph 1 1 species: a group of animals or plants that are very similar and can reproduce together. 2 die out: to pass out of existence 3 estimate: (v) if you estimate a quantity or value, you make an approximate judgment or calculation of it; (n) an estimate is an approximate calculation of a quantity or value. 4 appalling: shocking, deeply offending

4 Vocabulary: Paragraph 1 5 habitat: the habitat of an animal or plant is the natural environment in which it normally lives or grows. 6 exploitation: a situation in which someone is being treated unfairly or being taken advantage of 7 conservation: the preservation and protection of the environment 8 category: if people or things are divided into categories, they are divided into groups in such a way that the members of each group are similar to each other

5 Vocabulary: Paragraph 2 1 extinct: no longer in existence, especially a kind of plant or animal 2 critical: time, factor, or situation is extremely important; a critical situation is very serious and dangerous.; if a person is critical or in a critical situation, they are seriously ill; to be critical of someone or something means to criticize them.
