Procedures and Guidelines Biology Room 309 Mrs. Stoops cstoops@sumterschools.org Mr. Callier lcallier@sumterschools.org

These are the rules that govern our classroom. Guidelines These are the rules that govern our classroom.

Guidelines Guideline #1- Be in assigned seat and working on the Do-Now when the tardy bell rings. Guideline #2- Bring all books and materials to class and take them with you when you leave. Guideline #3- Follow directions the first time they are given. Guideline #4- Treat each person in this room with respect and dignity. Guideline #5- Follow all procedures and policies as outlined in the ASHN student handbook.

Guidelines What if I do follow the guidelines? You may receive a positive parent contact, verbal or written praise, a stress-free class, and a pleasant and orderly environment. What if I don’t follow the guidelines? 1st offense- student warning and documentation of the offense 2nd offense- parent contact and documentation of the offense 3rd offense- detention, parent contact, and documentation of the offense 4th offense- disciplinary referral

This is how the class will operate every single day. Procedures This is how the class will operate every single day.

Entering the Room: - Please enter quietly. Have a seat. Take out your materials. Review the agenda. Begin the Do-Now assignment. If you finish, wait quietly for the next direction.

When You Are Tardy: - Enter quietly. Excused: Place your pass on my desk. Unexcused: Sign the tardy log by the door (name, date, reason for tardy). - Quietly have a seat and take out your materials.

Getting Your Attention: I will… - stand at the front of the class. - raise my hand. - wait for everyone to stop talking, stop moving, and face me.* - begin speaking. *For each tally I put on the board, we will stay for 10 seconds after the bell rings. (10 sec/tally)

Heading: Place on everything you turn in. Name Date Mrs. Stoops Biology Block (1,3,4)

Finishing Work Early: - Wait quietly until the next instruction is given. - You may: check your work, read, do make-up work, work on homework, or sit quietly.

If You Are Absent: - Ask a classmate what you missed, for notes, what the homework was, etc… - Ask me for any handouts at the beginning of the class or as soon as it is appropriate. It is your responsibility to find out what you missed and to make it up. I DO NOT chase people down to tell them what they missed. You are in high school- that is YOUR job to find out.

Leaving the Room: If called out, quietly pack your materials and leave. You are responsible for what you miss. - No one is to leave the room without a pass.

Bathroom: - No bathroom without a pass (in your agenda). I am not obligated to let you go. That is what passing time is for! Do not ask in the middle of an activity or during notes. The answer will be….

Turning in Papers: - At the beginning of the class, put it in the “turn it in” bin on the front counter. If I collect work, pass it to the front. I will collect it as I walk by. Heading must be on all work you turn in.

Classroom Discussion: Please participate. I want to hear what you have to say. Raise your hand and wait to be called on. Make all questions and comments relevant to the current discussion. If your question is off topic, write it down and ask it later.

Moving Around the Room: - You must ask permission by raising your hand before getting out of your seat. - Do not ask to get up during a classroom discussion or while taking notes. - Get the supplies you need (paper, tissues, pencil sharpener, hand sanitizer…) as you walk in to class. If you need it during class, you must ask permission to get up.

Extra Copies of Handouts: - All students get one free copy from me. - All work is posted on my class website. - You must print additional copies on your own time (at home, Panther Period…). - Printing is 10¢ per page in the library. You may copy an assignment by hand if it is legible. My school website: go to www.ashn.sumterschools.org, click school staff, click Stoops.

Class Dismissal - The teacher dismisses you, not the bell. - Do not pack up prior to the bell. - Wait until the teacher finishes and officially dismisses you with, “Have a nice day!”

Grading: 40% tests, quizzes, projects/ performance tasks 40% daily work, sourcebooks, homework 20% EOCT score and final exam score If you want to pass this class, all you need to do is turn in SOMETHING for EVERYTHING.
