Post-Secondary Enrollment Options

Earn College Credit NOW  Find out what college courses are like  Take a course at our high school or on a college campus.  Reduce the cost of your college education

Option B and Credit in Escrow  Option B  Earn high school and college credit at the same time  Grades figure into high school GPA  Tuition, books, and fees are free to student  Available only during the academic year  Credit in Escrow  Earn college credit which is held in escrow for you  No high school credit, no impact on GPA  Can count for HS credit after the fact  Student pays tuition, books, fees  Available all year

Where do I take college classes?  Some ALHS students attend Lorain County Community College  Some LCCC courses can be taken through distance learning  Some LCCC courses are offered on-site  Some ALHS students have attended other colleges and universities

Requirements  Freshmen: 3.9 GPA during 7 th and 8 th grades (May only take one course per semester)  Sophomores: 3.7 GPA earned in 9 th grade (May only take one course per semester)  Juniors: 3.5 cumulative GPA  Seniors: 3.0 GPA

LCCC Courses at ALHS  Accounting Principles I (ACTG 151)  College Composition I & II  (ENGL 161 & 162)  Anatomy and Physiology I (BIOG 121)  (Please note prerequisite)  Photography I & II (PHTG 151 & 152)  Earth Science (PSSC 161)  Health and Wellness (HLED 156)

Talent Clause  For students who are close to, but don’t quite meet the GPA requirement  Student is exceptional in a particular area  After review, student may take courses in his/her talent area only

Participation Timeline  DEADLINE is March 30 to turn in your signed Intent to Participate form (Available here tonight!)  Complete your application  Meet with your ALHS counselor to choose courses and turn in application. (Other colleges may have other deadlines)  LCCC Assessment (after you have been accepted) Meet with LCCC (or other college) counselor to schedule. Please do this ASAP, but before June 1 st.  Make any necessary schedule adjustments with ALHS counselor

Credit Conversion  1 hour of college credit =.20 high school credit (.20 Carnegie unit)  5 hours of college credit = 1 high school credit (1 Carnegie unit)  Juniors and seniors may earn no more credit than they can at ALHS  Students must earn a minimum of 6.0 high school credits per year.

Keep in Mind  LCCC and ALHS breaks and holidays are not the same  Student is responsible for dealing with schedule conflicts  Transportation must be reliable  You will be attending college. No interim reports or conference nights. You will be charged for a course that you fail, and will be charged for withdrawing.
