2 Post-Secondary Enrollment Options
What it is and what you need to know!!!

3 What is P.S.O.? P.S.O. is a State of Ohio program that provides an opportunity for high school students to attend a local college or university and earn college credit.

4 Option “A” Option A allows high school students to earn college credit while attending high school. HOWEVER… Tuition, books and fees are paid by the student/parents

5 OPTION “B” Tuition and books are paid for by the school district (additional fees are not covered). Credit earned through Option B will count as college AND high school credit. Transportation to and from the college is the responsibility of the student.

10 What’s Next? Take placement exams (TRI-C) Testing center hours:
M – Th, 9:00am – 8:30pm. Must begin testing not later than 6:00pm. Acceptance letters will be sent to you; BHS counselors will receive a copy.

11 What’s Next? Have BHS counselor check Authorization to Attend form(TRI-C) Schedule appointment with admissions counselor/academic counselor to select courses.

12 Application Deadlines
Tri-C: April 15, 2012 for fall, December 1, 2012 for spring B-W: May 1, 2012 for both fall and spring semesters

13 Things to Consider How are college semester hours transferred to high school credits? College hours are multiplied by .2 to equate with high school credit. ex.: 3 semester hrs = .6 h.s. credit 5 semester hrs = 1.0 h.s. credit Total number of h.s. credits must be at least 2.5 per semester and 5.5 for the year.

14 Things to Consider What about eligibility?
P.S.O. courses DO count toward eligibility. Students must be scheduled for and earn 2.5 credits per semester, 5.5 credits for the year.

15 Things to Consider What about “honors” grades?
P.S.O. course grades WILL be considered as “honors” classes only at the 200 level or above. All others will be treated as regular classes: A = 4.0, B = 3.0, etc.

16 Things to Consider Will the credit I earn through P.S.O. transfer to another university? Most colleges in Ohio will accept credit earned through the P.S.O. program. Out of state colleges are not required to accept credits as P.S.O. is an Ohio program.

17 Things to Consider Can P.S.O. students take evening, weekend, or distance learning classes? YES! This allows more flexibility in scheduling between Berea High and the college. BW does not allow P.S.O. students to take evening or weekend classes

18 Things to Consider What if I complete the course, but I receive an “F”? The student/family will be billed for tuition and books. You will have an “F” on your transcript

19 Things to Consider What if I do not complete the course because I don’t like it? You will have one week from the first day of the P.S.O. class to determine if you wish to drop; after that time, you will be charged for tuition and books, and the withdrawal grade will be an “F”.
