Answer the question!  Write quietly without stopping  Don’t worry about grammar or spelling  Just get your ideas out!!

 Welcome! MYP Design 2014 – 2015 Mr. Cihlar

What is this class about?  For now, set up dividers in your 3-ring binder for  Daily Notes  Process Journal  More categories will come.

What is this class about?  Originally called “Tech/Technology”  Now known as “Design”  We will still engage constantly with technology, and you will learn new technological tools  Major focus is providing support for your personal project  GOAL : Develop skills and tools you can use to be more successful technologically in a process-oriented way

What we will do to reach the goal?  Unit 1: It’s called RE-search for a reason  Where to start  Evaluating sources  Citing sources  To turn in at end of unit: Design brief  We will talk about all that this week!

What we will do to reach the goal?  Forthcoming units of study:  Telling a story with images (digital photography, Photoshop)  Making a difference with video (digital video recording, video editing with Premiere)  Thinking like a computer (introduction to procedural computer programming)  You have something important to say (public presentations and PowerPoint)  Data, data, data! (data analysis and graphing with Excel)  Put it all together: design problem

Learning Community Expectations  Take pride in your school  Respect other community members  Try – put forth your best effort, always  Take responsibility and contribute to your own and others’ learning

Specific Procedures  We expect each other to arrive on time.  If you are late, sign in on the tardy log and get seated and caught up as quickly as possible.  We expect each other to be in-class working together.  Hall passes generally not issued. Plan accordingly.  If you need help or clarification, ask each other first to see if you can resolve it as a community.  Homework will be posted on our class Web-site.  Online homework will be turned into Google drive.  I will communicate with you using your CPS .

This week: let’s get organized  DUE:  Wednesday, September 3  Get your 3-ring binder, loose leaf paper, and dividers!  Thursday, September 4  Background survey about yourself (see Web site)  Download and print Personal Project Handbook (see Web site)  Written response to a discussion we will have on Wednesday  Friday, September 5  Signed copy of syllabus from parent  Monday, September 8  Entry #1 logged into Personal Project Process Journal

How do I know what’s due when?  Check the class web site!   Faculty > Mr. Cihlar > MYP Design  Homework  In general, you can also expect a quiz most Fridays.

Let’s save your bell-ringer  In your Google Drive, create a folder  MYP Design_Period#_LastName_FirstName  No spaces – just underscores  Share with  Create a folder called Bellringers  Save as “Bellringer_2014_09_02”
