H.264 H.264, also known as MPEG-4 part 10/AVC, is the latest MPEG video compression standard. Without affecting image quality, H.264 can reduce the size of a digital video file by more than 80% as compared with motion JPEG format, and by more than 50% as compared with MPEG-4 standard. H.264 delivers excellent video quality across an entire bandwidth spectrum from 3G to HD and everything in between (from 40 Kbps to upwards of 10 Mbps). The improved compression performance of H.264 comes at the price of greater computational cost. H.264 is more sophisticated than earlier compression methods.
