Components Of Fitness

There are 2 types: Physical Fitness Motor Fitness The ability of the body to meet various physical demands. Includes: Strength, Endurance, Speed, Flexibility and Body Composition. Motor Fitness The ability of a person to perform successfully at their sport. Includes: Agility, Balance, Co-ordination, Power and Reaction Time.

Physical Fitness Strength Endurance Speed How well muscles can exert force by contracting against resistance (weights). Test: 1 Repitition Maximum Endurance A muscle’s ability to perform sustained work Test: 1 minute Press ups/ Sit ups Speed The pace at which your muscles can contract Test: 40 metre sprint

Physical Fitness Flexibility Body Composition Aerobic Endurance Creating an extended motion without being stopped by excess tissue (fat or muscle) Test: Sit and Reach Body Composition The makeup of the body (e.g. Fat, muscle) Test: BMI, Skinfolds (Callipers). Aerobic Endurance The ability of the body to deliver oxygen to working muscles for continued exertion. Test: Beep test.

Motor Fitness Agility Power Balance Performing a series of explosive, rapid movements in opposing directions. Test: Illinois Agility Run Power Producing a maximum muscular contraction in an explosive burst. Combo of strength and speed. Test: Vertical Jump Balance Controlling the body’s position while stationary or moving Test: Wobble board, balance beam etc

Motor Fitness Co-ordination Reaction Time Using the previous components together in order to create effective movements. Test: Throwing and catching Reaction Time The time it takes for the body (or a part of) to react to a given stimuli. Test: Drop the ruler, Drag car racing start.
