3 The 11 Components of fitness
Components of Physical Fitness Components of Skill-Related Fitness Aerobic endurance Agility Muscular endurance Balance Flexibility Co-ordination Speed Power Muscular strength Reaction time Body composition Identify the 6 components of physical fitness (Pass) Define the 6 components of physical fitness (Pass) Describe / Explain the most relevant physical fitness components in sports. 4 Physical fitness definitions
‘The ability of the cardiovascular system to work efficiently, supplying nutrients and oxygen to working muscles during sustained physical activity’. ‘Having an adequate range of motion in all joints of the body; the ability to move a joint fluidly through its complete range of movement’. ‘The relative ratio of fat mass to fat-free mass (vital organs, muscle, bone) in the body’. ‘Distance divided by the time taken. Speed is measured in metres per second (m/s). The faster an athlete runs over a given distance, the greater their speed’. ‘The ability of the muscular system to work efficiently, where a muscle can continue contracting over a period of time against a light to moderate fixed resistance load’. ‘The maximum force (in kg or N) that can be generated by a muscle or muscle group’. Identify the 6 components of physical fitness (Pass) Define the 6 components of physical fitness (Pass) Describe / Explain the most relevant physical fitness components in sports. (Pass/Merit)

13 starter Go through your booklet:
Re-write your spellings on the back of your booklet Using a green pen, make any changes/add in additional information In green, complete the task from last week.

14 Learning outcomes Identify the 5 components of skill-related fitness (Pass) Define the 6 components of skill-related fitness (Pass) Rank components of skill-related fitness based on their relevance in sport (Pass/Merit/Distinction)

16 task You have 5 minutes to give a definition and sporting example of the 5 components of skill-related fitness. Identify the 5 components of skill-related fitness (Pass) Define the 6 components of skill-related fitness (Pass) Rank components of skill-related fitness based on their relevance in sport (Pass/Merit/Distinction)

17 Skill-related fitness definitions
Agility: ‘The ability of a sports performer to quickly and precisely move or change direction without losing balance or time’ Co-ordination: ‘The smooth flow of movement needed to perform a motor task efficiently and accurately’ Power: ‘The product of strength and speed. Expressed as the work done in a unit of time’ Balance: ‘The ability to maintain centre of mass over a base of support’. There are 2 types: static and dynamic.’ Reaction time: ‘The time taken for a sports performer to respond to a stimulus and the initiation of their response’ Identify the 5 components of skill-related fitness (Pass) Define the 6 components of skill-related fitness (Pass) Rank components of skill-related fitness based on their relevance in sport (Pass/Merit/Distinction)
