SAFE WORK INSTRUCTIONS Title of Subject: Compressor - Diesel Last Reviewed Date: October 2015 SAFE WORK INSTRUCTIONS The following safe work instructions is NOT INTENDED to replace hands on training requirements of the code of federal regulations. The intent is to provide an overview of known potential safety hazards associated with equipment operation. Hands on training with an experienced operator on each specific model must be conducted. The trainee can not proceed onto production until they are determined ready to proceed by the supervisor of the training. Before any operation or maintenance procedure is performed with or on this equipment, it is important that personnel have a complete understanding of the location and functions of all controls and indicators, as well as, the location and use of all emergency shutdown controls and procedures. Steps for Initial SWI Training: Prepare – Review the SWI. Present – Quick Card at the machine with experienced operator. Tryout – Person runs the machine with supervision. Follow up – Competency points are verified by supervisor and 5000-23 is signed by the trainee/trainer to complete the training. Steps for Retraining: Review SWI or Quick Card Verify Competency Points Complete verification of retraining form Competency Points: Pre-operational Checks © Operating Compressor © Buchanan Minerals, LLC is providing this safety guidance in order to specify the minimum safety standards, practices or policies that are expected to be observed by persons operating on Buchanan Minerals property. SAFE WORK INSTRUCTIONS Title: Compressor - Diesel SAFE WORK INSTRUCTIONS KEY POINTS SAFETY PRECAUTIONS Work Area Examination: Examine the roof and ribs for loose materials and the walkways for potential slipping/tripping hazards. Scale loose roof and ribs as necessary. Remove potential slipping/tripping hazards. Preoperational Checks: In PA diesel operators must have received initial 8 hours of instruction by a diesel certified instructor. Approved diesel pre-operational checklist must be completed in it’s entirety prior to being operated. The equipment must be maintained free from accumulations of combustible materials.(coal, dust, paper, grease and oil). Examine all hoses and connections to ensure that they are free from damage or defects. Ensure that the equipment is in a safe location prior to beginning the checks. Do not cross between Haulage equipment to perform the checks. Be alert to traffic in the area. If any of the items on the checklist cannot be completed the items must be repaired/completed prior to operation. Prior to starting the equipment to perform any of the checks ensure that all personnel are in the clear. Operation: Notify all persons in the area of the intended start-up of the equipment. After starting examine the compressor to be certain that no hazards have developed such as oil leaks or leaks in the air lines. Examine the gauges to ensure proper operating pressures. Ensure that all personnel are in the clear prior to starting. Do not exceed manufactures recommendations for operating pressure. Do not open any lines until pressure has been relieved to atmosphere and verified. Diesel equipment must be attended during operation. Shut Down: Examine the work area to ensure that the equipment is parked in a safe location. Once the equipment is shut down make a visual examination of the work area to be certain that no potential fire hazards exist.
