1 SAFE WORK INSTRUCTIONS
Title of Subject: Degas Drill Last Reviewed Date: November 2015 June Organizational Name Change to CNXC SAFE WORK INSTRUCTIONS The following safe work instructions is NOT INTENDED to replace hands on training requirements of the code of federal regulations. The intent is to provide an overview of known potential safety hazards associated with equipment operation. Hands on training with an experienced operator on each specific model must be conducted. The trainee can not proceed onto production until they are determined ready to proceed by the supervisor of the training. Before any operation or maintenance procedure is performed with or on this equipment, it is important that personnel have a complete understanding of the location and functions of all controls and indicators, as well as, the location and use of all emergency shutdown controls and procedures. Steps for Initial SWI Training: Prepare – Review the SWI. Present – Quick Card at the machine with experienced operator. Tryout – Person performs tasks with supervision. Follow up – Competency points are verified by supervisor and is signed by the trainee/trainer to complete the training. Title: Degas Drill SAFE WORK INSTRUCTIONS KEY POINTS SAFETY PRECAUTIONS Work Area Examination: Examine the roof and ribs for loose materials and the walkways for potential slipping/tripping hazards. Scale loose roof and ribs as necessary. Remove potential slipping/tripping hazards.  Pre – Operational Checks: At power center, Check mechanical plug , receptacle, breaker. Make sure Receptacle, plug or cat head has identifying tag , check for ground strap from cat head or plug to frame of transformer. (if Applicable). Check switches, levers and foot controls . Make sure Cat Head/Plug, receptacle and breaker are properly identified. All levers shall be centering and all switches in the off position. Make sure panic bars will de-energize machines. Drill and Tender Unit Set-up ( If Tender Unit Applicable): All persons to be in clear, sound warning device before starting up and no one is allowed to pass while equipment is in motion. Ensure that power is disengaged from drill Unit if using tender unit. Connect Hydraulic lines from tender to drill unit.(If applicable). Stabilize drill unit by extending stab jacks to raise machine tires of mine floor. Extend stabilizing jacks until contacting mine roof . Utilize proper body positioning and safe lifting techniques. Stay clear of all red zones and never allow anyone to enter red zones Ensure breaker is disengage (if Applicable). Make sure all quick-coupler fittings are locked in place. Place blocks beneath jacks to increase load bearing capacity while extending jacks to stabilize machine. Keep all body parts away from jacks. Watch pinch points. Make sure path of swing is clear around feed carriage.

Title: Degas Drill SAFE WORK INSTRUCTIONS KEY POINTS SAFETY PRECAUTIONS Drilling Procedures / Well Head Installation : Check General work area. Place drill steel through drill head from rear of the drill. Connect control cable between machines to enable both hydraulic motors on tender unit to run and to activate panic bars on drill( If Applicable). Make gas checks as required in the site specific vent plan. Always use a brass hammer when hammering on drill steel or pipe to help control sparking hazards. Make sure all supplies are fixed on the machine to prevent sliding off. Use proper lifting techniques at all times. Never Handle rotating drill steel. Communicate activities to helper/helpers. To avoid Crushing injuries, never allow anyone to put hand on the boom or while the machine is drilling or running or while operating control levers. Make sure everyone is clear of the path of the drill bit. Make sure all pipe wrenches have been removed prior to rotating the drill head and avoid pinch points. When cementing well head in place always stand upwind to eliminate breathing toxic hazards. Fire retardant clothing is required to be worn when working with the degas operation.
