Title: Rail Tugger (Air & Hydraulic) SAFE WORK INSTRUCTIONS KEY POINTS SAFETY PRECAUTIONS Work Place Examination: Always examine the Roof and Ribs in the immediate area around the rail tugger and in the area where rails are to be loaded. Examine the work area and path of travel for the rails to be recovered. Ensure communication has been established with all people in the immediate area, that rails are to be pulled and recovered. Scale down or support loose roof and ribs as necessary. Remove any potential tripping hazards or obstructions for the rails path of travel. Ensure radio communication is operational and establish with all groups. Pre-Operational Checks: Always make a pre-operational check on the rail tugger platform and the winch mechanism. Check the entire unit for oil leaks and damaged hoses. Check the ropes, connections, and other puling equipment for defects Assure that the ropes, shackles, and pins are the proper rating. . Examine air &/or hydraulic lines for damage. Examine all line connections for proper securing. Ensure all air connections (Chicago fittings) have R- clips, and hydraulic connections are not leaking or hoses are damaged. When utilizing an air winch examine the air “football” has the proper amount of oil. Make a walk-around visual examination of the entire unit. Do not allow oil, grease, coal, or other combustible materials to accumulate on the equipment. Ensure the pulling rope is equipped with factory ends. (Either a loop end with steel thimble or magna-fluxed hook), Crosby clamps are not acceptable means of shortening the rope. Never utilize damaged or malfunctioning parts. Add oil based upon required amount.
