☐ Dividers for Notebook Mrs. Quigley ENGLISH I How to contact me CLASS MATERIALS aquigley@davidson.k12.nc.us 336-474-8280 ext.1212 Remind: remind.com/join/k3edo32 http://oghs.davidson.k12.nc.us/ Required: ☐ 3-Ring Binder ☐ Dividers for Notebook ☐ College Ruled paper ☐ Pens/Pencils ☐ Highlighters Note: If there will be an issue with your student obtaining any of these supplies, please contact me directly. I can only provide for students in need at the start of the semester. After the first week, students without supplies will not be able to participate effectively in class. Room 2006 Class Procedures Grades 1. Follow directions the first time they are given. 2. Raise your hand for comments and questions. 3. Respect your classmates, teachers, and room! 4. Make smart choices. 5. Do your best work, all the time. 1. Be in seat when tardy bell rings. 2. Work your hardest each day. 3. Do not use electronic devices in class without teacher permission. 4. Respect other students’ learning environment. 5. Bring all of your supplies to class daily. 6. Complete all of your work and turn it in on time. Expectations 60% 30% 10 % 10% Major Works Minor Works Homework Classwork, homework, and minor assignments will be entered often into Powerschool. Tests and major assignments will be entered no more than a week after the due date. Grades are able to be viewed by students and parents via Powerschool. I will also periodically send home progress reports. Consequences Rules 1. Warning: the teacher provides a verbal reprimand/reminder to student. 2. Detention: after school or lunch detention assigned. 3. ISS: sent to ISS for the class period (documentation sent home) 4. Referral to Administration: a student will be immediately referred to administration for severe behavior problems.

Mrs. Quigley Technology Plagiarism Cheating I Absentee Policy 2016-2017 ENGLISH I 2016-2017 Absentee Policy Late / Incomplete Work * YES, WE DID SOMETHING IMPORTANT WHILE YOU WERE ABSENT. It is the student’s responsibility to check the class “While You Were Out” folders to get any assignments they missed. * A student has one day for every day they were absent to turn in any work. If a quiz was administered on a day a student was absent, the quiz must be made up on the first day the student returns. If previously assigned work was due on the day of the absence, the work is due on the first day the student returns. My expectation is that ALL assignments be completed to a level of proficiency (70% or higher) and turned in on time. If work is turned in late, 10 points will be deducted each day. Late work will not be accepted past five days of the due date. If missing or late work becomes an issue, calls home to discuss this will be made. * Printer and Internet issues are not an excuse for late work. Technology -We will use technology often in this classroom to better prepare students for the real world. Students are expected to use the technology provided in accordance with the school’s usage policy. Failure to do so will result in a loss of technology privileges. If an alternative assignment cannot be given, the student will take a “0” for the technology assignment. -Phones and other electronic devices are to stay put away unless otherwise stated by a teacher. At times, individual permission can be given to use electronic devices, do not assume that since one student is using their device, that you can. If I see it out without permission, your phone will be sent to the office. Plagiarism Cheating Plagiarism is the taking of ideas or writings of another and passing them off as one’s own. In this class, plagiarism includes... 1. turning in another’s work as one’s own 2. including a source but failing to cite it 3. copying an author’s exact words and passing them off as one’s own 4. finding an idea from another source and passing it off as one’s own 5. copying work from a friend before class (or while in another class) Students caught plagiarizing will be given a ZERO for the assignment. * The teacher will notify the administration and contact parents if cheating / plagiarism is suspected. * The student will be given a zero for that particular test or assignment. * The student will receive a minimum of three hours of ASD. I, ________________________________________, have read and understand the rules and expectations for English I. I acknowledge that it is my responsibility to contact my teacher if I have any questions or concerns. I know that this syllabus, assignments, calendars, and resources will be available to me on Mrs. Quigley’s webpage once the school year gets underway. I know that assignments can be submitted digitally at any time and that printer/computer/flash drive issues are not an excuse for late work. I understand that there will be a quiz over the information on this syllabus to ensure I read and understand the rules and expectations.
