Signatures Classes with an * require teacher’s approval and signature. Math class will be determined by your current math teacher and must be signed by them. Resource/ESL Classes In the bottom left-hand corner of your card are question about Resource and ESL classes. Answer the questions yes or no. If you have resource classes, your teachers will help you select the correct classes.

Honors Applications Language Arts 9H Biology H An application is necessary for consideration in each class. Ask your teachers for the applications and return them by the due date. A list of students qualifying for honors classes will be given to the registrar. At that time, honors classes will be assigned.

Math Secondary Math 1 Secondary Math 1H Secondary Math 2H Your current teacher will determine which math class you should be placed in. BE SURE TO HAVE YOUR MATH TEACHER SIGN YOUR CARD BEFORE THE COLLECTION DATE, (Thursday, Feb. 25th).

Elective Classes Everyone will choose 2.5 electives. You can have a combination of half-year and full-year classes. Choose classes that will fill your high school graduation requirements. Seminary is available. Students wishing to take three full year electives must take Summer P.E. or a packet. Information for summer P.E or packets is available in the Counseling Center.

Foreign Language Foreign language is not required for graduation but 2 years of the same language is required at some colleges. By taking the first and second levels of the same language in 8th and 9th grades, you fill that 2 year requirement. If you failed any quarter of first year foreign language you will need to retake it. If you want to be eligible for the Regents Scholarship, the requirement is 2 years STARTING in 9th grade.

Seminary/Released Time Seminary (a.k.a. Released Time) may be taken during your 9th grade year. Seminary takes the place of one of your electives but does not give credit toward graduation. You will still have enough room to complete all credits for graduation and take seminary all four years. Seminary is not just a free period. There are requirements for attendance and behavior just the same as any other class. Early morning Seminary is available on a limited basis.

Music Classes Any student may take beginning classes. Advanced music classes must be approved and signed by Mr. Lyon (Band) or Mr. Goodrich (Orchestra/Choir). Auditions may be required for advanced music classes.

Art Classes Art Foundation 1 may be taken by any student but should not be repeated if taken in a previous year. Art Foundation 1 is a prerequisite for all other art classes. Advanced art classes must be approved by an art teacher.

Graduation Requirements 4 years Language Arts 3.5 years Social Studies 3 years Math 3 years Science 1.5 Physical Education 1.5 years Fine Arts 1 year CTE .5 Computer Tech .5 Financial Literature .5 Health

What elective classes fill what graduation requirements? Fine Arts Art Foundation Painting Drawing Ceramics Theatre Dance Band Orchestra Choir Healthy Lifestyles Team Sports Dance CTE Introduction to Engineering Introduction to Digital Design Child Development Foods and Nutrition Exploring Business and Marketing Apparel Design and Production

Alternates It is critical for you to choose alternates (second choices) in the event that your first choice is full or does not work in your schedule. Choose these carefully because if you need to substitute your alternate choice, you will need to stay in that elective. Select 2 semester alternate classes and 1 year alternate class. If your alternates need a signature, be sure and get them signed.

Things to Remember All classes now count toward high school graduation. Any failed class must be made up. Registration cards must be signed by you and your parent/guardian. Any signature needed by a teacher must be obtained before collection day. Registration cards will be collected on Thursday, Feb. 25th during Language Arts. If you do not turn in a card by the due date, your classes will be selected for you by the counseling staff. There will be no schedule changes after this registration process!
