3 Welcome to the Junior Course Selection Process.
The junior year is one in which careful planning must be done to ensure all requirements for your graduation are met. There are many important decisions to be made. It is imperative that you carefully follow the instructions.

4 CLASS STANDING Students are classified by the number of academic
credits they have earned at the beginning of each year. Freshman Entering High School in the Fall of 2015 Grade Credit ½ -11 ½ ½ above

8 How To Make Your Junior Course Selections

10 Personal Information 1. Fill out your last name, first name.
2. Current English teacher and period you have English. 3. Fill out your grade level (for next year) 4. ****Note where you and your parents will sign the form.

12 Course Selection List First Column (Fall) 1. Fill out course # 2. Fill out course name Second Column (Spring) 3. Repeat course # and course name 4. Obtain teacher initials as required.

14 List Alternates List 3 alternates for your counselor to choose from. The first alternate will be chosen first. If you do not list alternates, the counselor will choose for you.

17 Endorsements All students are required to choose an endorsement. Your Counselor will discuss your endorsement and course selections with you.

All Juniors will take English 3. Choose one of the following: 0103 English 3 0113 AP English Lang* 0109 AP English Lang GT* ( * requires teacher signature)

19 Math 0261 Algebra 2 ( * requires teacher signature)
If currently in Geometry: 0236 Math Models 0240 Algebraic Reasoning 0250 Statistics 0261 Algebra 2 0262 Algebra 2 Pre-AP* 0263 Algebra 2 Pre-AP/GT* ( * requires teacher signature) ( Please refer to your current math teacher for next year’s math course selection.)

If currently in Math Models: 0261 Algebra 2 0262 Algebra 2 Pre-AP* 0263 Algebra 2 Pre-AP/GT* 0240 Algebraic Reasoning 0250 Statistics 8590 Financial Math ( * requires teacher signature) ( Please refer to your current math teacher for next year’s math course selection.)

21 Math 0268 Discrete Math for Problem Solving
If currently in Algebra 2 you can choose from: 0240 Algebraic Reasoning 0250 Statistics 0268 Discrete Math for Problem Solving 0283 Pre-Calculus or 0284 Pre/AP GT Pre- Calculus* 0293 AP Statistics or 0294 AP Statistics GT* 0271 AP Computer Science 1 ( * requires teacher signature) ( Please refer to your current math teacher for next year’s math course selection.)

22 Science Being on the Foundation Graduation Plan gives you many more options. If you are a college bound student, most colleges and universities require 4 years of science which include Biology, Chemistry, and Physics as well as a 4th science.

23 Math and Science Waivers
Both your math and science teachers will recommend the appropriate classes for you. If you disagree with their recommendation, you must fill out a waiver form. The counselors will have these during the course selection process.

24 Social Studies . All Juniors are required to take US History 0311 US History 0312 AP US History* 0314 AP US History GT* ( * requires teacher signature) Please remember that there is an EOC exam for US History.

25 Foreign Language Choose from the following:
A minimum of two years of the same foreign language is required for graduation. Choose from the following: French Japanese German American Sign Language Spanish Chinese

26 Physical Education All students must have 1 year of Physical Education to meet graduation requirements Choose from the following: Individual & Team Sports or Aerobic Activity. There are alternate ways to receive PE credit such as off-campus PE, band, athletics , cheerleading (1 credit), and Cougar Stars (Drill Team; 1 credit). All athletics (non PE classes) require coach’s signature.

27 Health All students are required to take one semester of Health to meet graduation requirements. 0505 Health

28 Speech Component Electives must include a communication skills component, earned through Professional Communications (1520) Debate Professional Standards in Agribusiness Teen Leadership Theatre

29 Fine Art All students must have one full year of the same Fine Art. These classes can be used as elective credit after completion of the required fine art credit. Choose from the following: Band, Orchestra, Choir, Art, Theatre Arts, Tech Theatre, Floral Design, Dance, and Digital Arts Animation (Some courses may require teacher signature)

30 Electives The remainder of the courses on the Course Request Worksheet may be used as electives. Some are one semester only and some are full year courses. Some require prerequisite and/or teacher approval. Miller Career and Technical Center courses require an application as well as campus Diversified Career Prep programs. Some require more than one period. (Jr./Sr. only) Please refer to the course catalogue for course descriptions.

31 Miller Career Center The priority deadline for Miller applications is March 3, 2017 in the Counselor’s office. For more information refer to the Miller brochure. These are available in the Counselor’s office. Miller Career Open House February 28 for any interested student and family.

32 Alternate Selections courses/electives in case a course
Choose three alternate courses/electives in case a course you have chosen is not offered.

33 Course Request Worksheet 2017-2018
Your card must have all sections completed. Please write neatly. Please choose courses wisely, as staff is hired based on your course selections. Course selection cards are due to your English teacher no later than January 26 to your English teacher. (Be sure to include your alternate selections)
