3 To get a diploma, you must...
All NC and ABSS high school students are expected to meet specific course and credit requirements, testing standards and performance requirements in order to receive a high school diploma.

4 The Future-Ready Core... English (4 credits) English I, II, III & IV
Social Studies (4 credits) World History American History: The Founding Principles, Civics and Economics American History I & II Health/PE (1 credit req.)

5 The Future-Ready Core... Science (3 credits) World Language (opt.)
Earth and Environmental Biology Physical Science (which also includes Chemistry and Physics) World Language (opt.) Required minimum of 2 for application to UNC system university.

6 The Future Ready Core... Mathematics (4 credits)
Math 1, 2 and 3, and at least one advanced math course beyond Math 3 (Math 4, Discrete Math, Pre-Calculus, AP Statistics, etc.) Bridge courses offered include Introduction to High School Math, Foundations of Math 1 and 2, and other combinations of CTE course work which can count toward the required math credits…

7 The Future-Ready Core... Additional Requirements (6 Credits)
2 Elective credits of any combination from either Career and Technical Education (CTE), Arts Education, or World Languages 4 Elective credits strongly recommended (a four-course concentration) from one of the following: - Career & Technical Education (CTE) - Arts Education (dance, music, theater arts, or visual arts) - Any other subject area (mathematics, science, social studies, or English

9 Career and Technical Education Center (CTEC) 2550 Buckingham Road Burlington, NC  27217-3295
Biomedical Technology Culinary Arts Computer Science, Engineering and Networking Scientific Visualization Digital Media Project Lead the Way (Engineering) Automotive Technology 9th grade students can sign up to take courses at CTEC. They will spend ½ a day at CTEC each day. Transportation is provided. Students must register for 2 courses and 2 alternates at CTEC.

10 ABSS Graduation Requirements...
28 credits to graduate (more than the state requires) 6 credits to be promoted from grade 9 to 10 12 credits to be promoted from grade 10 to 11 20 credits to be promoted from grade 11 to 12 Capstone Project (optional) CPR Certification (required)

11 NC Academic Scholars Program
Students must... begin planning for the program before entering grade 9 to ensure they obtain the most flexibility in their courses. complete all the requirements of the Academic Scholars Program. have an overall 4-year un-weighted grade point average of 3.50. complete all requirements for a NC High School Diploma.

AP Courses: A= 5.0 B= 4.0 C= 3.0 D= 2.0 F= 0 ALL Courses: A= 4.0 B= 3.0 C= 2.0 D= 1.0 F= 0 Honors Courses: A= 4.5 B= 3.5 C= 2.5 D= 1.5 F= 0 GRADE POINT AVERAGE: The following quality points are used to assign a final value to each course taken; these are then averaged by adding each value and dividing by the number of classes taken. Effective with the class of 2019 and beyond.

13 Career and College Promise
Alamance Community College Junior and Senior Years Contact: SAHS School Counselors Alyssa Womble (SAHS) or Jenny Brownell (ACC) Elon Collegiate Start Senior Year The Career & College Promise (CCP) program allows North Carolina high school students a clear path to success in college or in a career.  The program is tuition-free to all students who meet the eligibility requirements.

14 Driver’s Eligibility... VROOM!
Must pass at least 3 out of 4 classes the semester prior to an application for your permit or license. Must maintain good grades (report sent to DMV each semester). Must attend school on a regular basis (i.e. cannot drop out).

15 Athletic Eligibility... Must pass at least 3 out of 4 classes as well as hold a minimum 2.00 GPA the semester prior to the sport season. Must attend school at least 80% (12 days) of the semester prior to the sport season. Must have a current physical exam. Other team/coach’s rules may apply. GO PATRIOTS .

16 Things to remember... ABSS Course Catalog is available online. You need to select 8 courses total, and at least 3 alternate courses; 2 alternates for CTEC (alternate means courses you are willing to take if you cannot get in an elective class). Choose classes that will get you to where you want to be in June 2022! More information is coming; your counselors and teachers will be able to assist you once they are ready.
