College Credit Plus 2018-2019

What is College Credit Plus? Opportunity for students in grades 7-12 to earn high school credit and college credit at the same time Students must successfully pass the college course to earn high school credit Students must complete an assessment exam and be determined “eligible” for CCP

Eligible vs. “College Ready” Being “college ready” is more that just being academically ready Consider the emotional and social transition and college expectations Consider time management and organizational skills CCP is a student driven program for highly motivated students

What is College Credit Plus? May take classes in summer, fall, and spring semesters May take up to 30 semester hours in an academic year Use following formula to determine how many hours you are eligible for: High school credits x 3, then subtract that number from 30 If a student enrolls in too many hours, they will be responsible for paying for the class(es)

How can students participate? STEP 1: Students must be “eligible” for CCP participation based on their college entry exam score ie. ACT, SAT, Accuplacer Each college will have a different exam requirement Student scores must indicate that they are ready for “college-level” courses in at least one subject area

How can students participate? STEP 2: Students must apply for admission Contact the college to learn about their application process Colleges have the final decision on student admission

How can students participate? Step 3: If the student is considered eligible and has been admitted to the college, then the college will discuss course options with the student Courses must be college level or non-remedial, and must be non-religious

Grades: The CCP grade earned in the college course is the same grade that will appear on the high school transcript Grades will be factored into the high school and college GPA

Courses to substitute graduation requirements: If a student chooses to take a CCP course to substitute a graduation requirement, they may still be required to still take the Ohio State Test (End of Course Exam) A special form must be turned in to your high school counselor for each CCP class you wish to substitute for a graduation requirement. Form must include student and parent signatures and a copy of the college course description

Benefits of CCP: Earn high school and college credits at the same time Students can get a head start on college degrees Opportunity to see what college is like Save money on tuition and textbook cost

Consequences of underperforming: If the student fails or withdraws from a college class too late, the student may be required to pay for the class The grades that students earn are on the college and high school transcript forever May be placed on academic probation or dismissed from the college

What are the deadlines? April 1, 2018 Intent to Participate form turned in to Columbian counselor Check each college’s deadline for admission

Extra Info. Athletic eligibility remains the same Not all CCP classes will transfer after graduation. Students must check with colleges to confirm transferability Students should check https://transfercredit.ohio.gov for transfer info.

TC Procedure: Attend CCP meeting or view online informational PowerPoints Turn in “Intent to Participate” form prior to APRIL 1ST Decide what college/university you would like to attend Apply to college and take college entry exam Wait on acceptance letter

TC Procedures: Meet with your Columbian counselor to discuss what classes you would like to take at Columbian next year to calculate allowable number of CCP hours Attend college orientation and meet with your CCP advisor to discuss scheduling Turn in a copy of your college schedule to your Columbian counselor Turn in “substitution forms” if applicable
