1

2 What is College Credit Plus (CCP)?
Ohio’s dual enrollment program, allows eligible 7th – 12th grade college-ready students to earn high school and college credit at the same time Earn up to 30 credit hours (high school & college) in an academic year; 120 max One 3+ credit hour college course = One high school unit

3 What is College Credit Plus (CCP)?
Apply to any public or participating private college/university Enroll in summer, fall and spring semesters Note: Summer begins the academic year! Graduating seniors are ineligible Does not count towards athletic eligibility Courses offered on campus, online or possibly at the high school

4 What are the benefits? Earn high school and college credit at same time Additional course options and academic challenge College grade is added to HS transcript. Same weight as AP, Honors, etc. Grades and GPA from YSU remain on your YSU transcript Credits, not grades, may be transferable with other colleges

5 What are the benefits? Access to all college academic support services
Academic Advisor, Writing Center, Mathematics Assistance Center, E-tutoring, Library, Disability Services Continued access to your HS counselor Head start on college degrees or certificates Experience college early to understand the expectations of college life

6 What are the benefits? No cost at public colleges and universities for tuition, required fees and textbooks Parking and Transportation costs are covered by the student/family Also, at YSU you receive… Free ticket to any home athletic event Access to Campus Recreation Center Must be at least 16 years old and sign a waiver form $45 Application fee is waived for New Freshman Application

7 Considerations and Consequences
If a student fails, or withdraws late, from the college course, the district may seek reimbursement for tuition and textbook costs from the student/family Enroll in more than 30 credit hours for the year, then the student either Drops a course Self-pays for the course (includes tuition, fees, and books at the college rate)

8 Considerations and Consequences
Grades can affect high school and college GPA Think scholarships after HS graduation Failing a course could prevent HS graduation Grade remains on the YSU transcript CCP Probation or Dismissal by the high school or college can occur

9 Considerations and Consequences
CCP Probation: Earns less than a 2.0 cumulative COLLEGE GPA or withdraws from 2 or more courses in a term may enroll in only one course for the term; cannot be in the same content area which a D or F was previously earned CCP Dismissal: Occurs when a student does not raise their GPA to a 2.0 or above; cannot enroll in any college courses CCP Appeal Process: Determined by the school

10 Considerations and Consequences
End of course exams still needed (if required) Under 14 years old, a parent/guardian must accompany while on campus Students taking class on campus pay for parking Athletes – review the OSHAA requirements HS and college calendars do not match Start/End dates, snow days, holidays, spring breaks may differ Difference between HS and College

11 Difference between HS and College
Study Time HS: 1 to 3 hours per day College: Standard rule of 2 hours for every hour spent in class Knowledge Acquisition HS: Information provided mostly in-class; out-of-class research can be minimal College: Coursework generally requires more independent thinking, longer writing assignments and out-of-class research

12 Difference between HS and College
Tests HS: Sometimes weekly or at the end of a chapter College: Fewer in number, covering more material Grades HS: Numerous quizzes, tests, homework College: Fewer tests and homework (if any) will be used to determine final grade

13 Difference between HS and College
Parent Role HS: Strong advocates working closely with teachers and counselors College: Mentor and support; college views student as independent decision-maker FERPA: Family Education Rights and Privacy Act protects the student record One last item to consider is college-readiness…

14 What does being “college-ready” mean?
Being college-ready is more than just being academically ready Consider emotional and social transition and college expectations Consider time management and organizational skills Understand grades earned are for HS and College credit and are factored into the student’s HS GPA Understand CCP credits are utilized in the calculation of future college financial aid awards

15 How can students participate?
Three step process! Students must… Step 1: …be “eligible” by showing college-readiness in one or more areas - if eligible then… Step 2: …apply for admission to the college or university – if accepted then… Step 3: …complete placement testing (if needed) and meet with an advisor to discuss course options Eligibility does not mean Admission. Admission does not mean course placement.

16 Step One: Eligibility Has one or more college-ready scores in English, Math or Reading College/University reviews the scores, using the statewide standards for the following assessments: ACT (English, Math, Reading) SAT (English, Math, Reading) Accuplacer (English and Reading) ALEKs, PlaceU or Maplesoft (for Math) Assessments needed varies by college/university

17 Student Eligibility Assessment Testing Scores
