Morning Procedures 8:30-8:46 It is important that students are in school on time!!!! A Journal or a “Do Now” assignment is on the Smart Board. When student are writing in their journal it must be 9 sentences or more. If it’s not complete by 8:55 a.m. they are to finish it at lunch or for homework.

Daily Routine Textbook: Journeys READING Textbook: Journeys Students have 3 periods of Reading Daily. Students will have a new story every week. We will discuss the story in class while learning new comprehension strategies and skills. We will study new vocabulary words and spelling words.

Writing Students growth in writing is very important in the fourth grade. Students will have a full period of writing daily. Students will be writing 3-4 paragraph essays. Students will be writing a variety of essays including: Speculative, Explanatory, Poetry Prompts, Letters, and Persuasive. Students will have a full week to complete a rough and final draft writing assignment.

MATH Text Book: Math in Focus (Singapore Math) Students will have 2 full periods of math every day. We will be covering a variety of topics this year! Study and Review are the keys to mastery! Students need to master multiplication skills. Students will learn and need to practice division and long division skills. Workbook A or Workbook B (homework), which reviews the lesson taught in class, will be given nightly. Go to the teacher websites to access the student textbook online.

Science Students will be exploring plants and animals, ecosystems, and the human body. Students will have quizzes and chapter tests Students are responsible for studying notes nightly when they are given a study guide. Parent’s must sign the study guide. Students will work on Science Projects as well.

SOCIAL STUDIES Students will be learning all about New Jersey. Students will be given notes to study for the test Students are responsible for studying notes nightly.

HOMEWORK Homework will be given every night! Each student starts out with 100 points for each subject. If a student misses an assignment they will lose 2pts. for each assignment. Homework will count for 10% of your child’s grade. The homework will be in their homework folder and copied down in their agenda book. Please initial the agenda book each night. Missing 3 or more assignments they will not attend chill chat chow!

Reading Log Students should read every night for 20 minutes!!! It should be something they enjoy! The READING LOG must be signed each night Monday-Thursday Students will receive

Behavior Policies All students are expected to be on their best behavior in school at all times. If students are caught being good they get to take a shot at the basketball hoop and earn a check. The students also can earn class cash and go to the class store at the end of the month for good behavior. If the students misbehave they get a warning, work a way from the group, behavior form, phone call home, and last is the principal’s office!!!

WEEKLY FOLDERS Weekly folders will be sent home when student work is completed. Please sign and date the folder and return it the next day. You may review the work in the folder with your child.
